Francis N. Cornett, Sr., age 81. Mr. Cornett was a native of Lexington, Ky. He was the son of the late William R. and Frances W. Combs Cornett. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School, and Ringling College of Art and Design, Sarasota, FL. He also attended the University of KY. He retired in 1986 from the U.S. Army Materiel Readiness Support Activity, with 32 years of service, as Visual Information Officer. He was a prolific artist, having painted many scenes in and around Kentucky, working mostly in watercolor. His paintings are in many private collections.
He is survived by his wife Jo Anne Duffy Cornett; four children: F. Neal Cornett, Jr. of Owensboro; Ruth E. (Eugene) Feagan, Evansville, IN; Rebecca (Dr. Tony) Holder, Newburgh, IN; Rachel (Scott) Hughey of Alexandria, VA; five grandchildren, Nicholas Holder; Kara Holder; Jo Anna Feagan; Alec Feagan; and Sarah R. Feagan.
He was a member of the Christian Church and had served as an Elder and adult Sunday School teacher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a veteran of the Korean War and a Life Member of the DAV.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 4-8 on Tuesday, and after 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Family has requested that expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Ringling College of Art and Design, Sarasota, FL.
