Francis Cunion Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 22, 2017.
Francis E. Cunion, 78, of Clarks Summit, passed away Monday morning, March 20, 2017, at his home after an illness. He was the husband of Barbara Latone Cunion. The couple had been married for 21 years.

Born in Olyphant, he was the son of the late Eugene and Anna Domanish Cunion and the stepson of the late Peter Sheptock. He was a 1956 graduate of the Olyphant/Johnson Tech High School.

In 1972, through hard work and determination, he founded Heritage Homes along with his friend and mentor, Angelo Guzzi.

Francis was well known and loved by everyone he met. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was also an exceptional artisan who excelled at carpentry, stone carving and woodworking. He and his wife, Barbara, met at Elk Mountain and enjoyed traveling and skiing throughout their marriage. He was a member of the Greystone Hunting Club, where he was the club treasurer for 25 years, the Scranton Country Club, and was a former member of the Elmhurst Country Club. Other organization memberships include being a member of the Lackawanna Home Builders Association as well as the past president of the Olyphant Lions Club. But the main passion in his life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who will be dearly missed.

Also surviving are a daughter, Jacqueline Hunt and her husband, Robert, Scott Township; two grandchildren, Justin King and Julianne Hunt; and a son-in-law, Jeffery King.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill King, and a stepbrother, William Sheptock.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. this Friday in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, where Francis was a member. Services will be led by the Rev. Seth D. Wasnock, assistant pastor of Our Lady of the Snows.

Interment will follow in Ss. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Peckville.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.

I am so very sorry for the loss of Francis. I remember back when I used to live in Factoryville, Pennsylvania, That I sent house plans to his company HERITAGE HOMES. I remember that about 2 or 3 days later I got a Phone call from him telling me that he really liked my house plans. Over the phone he was a nice person. Though I never got to meet him face to face. My thoughts and Prayers are with the Cunion Family. My thoughts and Prayers are also with Heritage Homes' Future.
