In Loving Memory of Francis (Frank) Bernard Bracken

October 4, 1948 – May 18, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the sudden passing of Francis (Frank) Bernard Bracken, age 76, on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at his home in Richmond, Virginia. His departure was unexpected, and he leaves behind a legacy of strength, generosity, humor, and enduring love for his family, friends, and community.

Frank was born on October 4, 1948, in Queens, New York, to the late Frank and Ruth (Stephenson) Bracken. From an early age, he was known for his spirited personality, quick wit, and love for learning. These qualities would shape the course of his life-both personally and professionally.

A proud graduate of Benedictine High School, Class of 1966, Frank credited the school with instilling in him a sense of discipline, faith, and brotherhood that remained with him throughout his life. His connection to Benedictine was lifelong and heartfelt-so much so that he later served on the school's Board of Directors, giving back to the institution that had given him so much. He was a passionate supporter of the Benedictine Cadets, attending their games whenever he could and always cheering the loudest from the sidelines.

Frank's early adult years were full of ambition and determination. He married Lynda (Phillips) Casagrande in 1966, and later, in 1975, he found his life partner in Josephine Burrough, with whom he would share the next 50 years in a strong and loving marriage.

Professionally, Frank was a natural leader and a strategic thinker. He built a distinguished career in marketing and management, ultimately retiring as Vice President of Operations at Metro Information Services, Inc. He was respected for his integrity, his ability to mentor others, and his calm, solution-oriented mindset. Colleagues often turned to him for guidance-not just because he was wise, but because he was kind.

Outside of work, Frank's passions were wide-ranging, but none more enduring than his love of golf. A dedicated and talented golfer, Frank was a longtime member of Hermitage Country Club, where he formed deep friendships and lasting memories. He played hundreds of courses across the U.S. and abroad, always seeking out the next great fairway. He competed in numerous regional tournaments-often emerging victorious-and celebrated the rare feat of five hole-in-ones during his decades-long golfing journey.

His favorite golf memories weren't just about the game-they were about the people. Frank loved the early morning tee times, the laughter shared over a round, the traditions, and the stories that came from each course he played. Golf wasn't just a sport for Frank-it was a way of life.

Frank also had a deep intellectual curiosity. A lover of history, he could speak at length about wars, politics, the American past, and of course, the storied history of golf. He was rarely without a book nearby, and he took joy in acquiring and sharing knowledge. He also had a soft spot for old westerns, basketball games, and any sport the Cadets were playing. Whether watching a championship on TV or attending a high school match, Frank was a loyal and enthusiastic fan.

When he wasn't on the golf course or with a book in hand, Frank loved traveling-especially to places that brought him peace and joy. Among his favorite destinations were Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, New Smyrna Beach, and the historic greens of Scotland. These places were more than vacation spots-they were escapes where he could reflect, relax, and enjoy time with the people he loved most.

Above all else, Frank was a family man. He found his greatest happiness in being surrounded by those he loved. Whether it was a small backyard cookout, a big holiday gathering, or a spontaneous get-together, Frank was the heart of every room. He loved listening just as much as telling stories, and his humor, insight, and presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Josephine Bracken; his brother Steve (Brenda) Bracken; daughter Sandy (Jim) Harless; son Robert (Louise) Magee; and his cherished grandchildren: Megan Sprinkles, Lauren Harless, Tiana Harless, Meridian Polly, Matthew Magee, Tristan Harless, and William Sprinkles-each of whom brought him pride, joy, and a twinkle in his eye.

Frank was deeply loved, and his absence will be profoundly felt. Yet his legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the kindness he showed, and the countless lives he touched.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at River of Life Community Church, 7700 Woodman Rd, Henrico, Virginia. A livestream will be available on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/RiverofLifeAG.

Please join us in remembering and honoring Frank's extraordinary life. In true Frank fashion, casual attire is encouraged-golf shirts welcome-as we gather to celebrate a man who loved life, loved people, and loved the game of golf.

Frank has always been part of our chosen family. He and Jo became friends with my parents before I was born and their relationships continued to grow and flourish, despite the physical distance between them. They were been there for me to celebrate every milestone: pageants, graduations, marriage, and the birth of my two kids, Jack and Isla. Frank and Jack developed a special bond over the past few years, and he would often call just to talk to Jack. This past Christmas, he even surprised Jack with a phone call from the North Pole! I will always remember Frank for his sense of humor and deep love of family (dogs included!), friends and golf. We love you, Frank! We know you are free of pain now, and hitting golf balls up in Heaven. Sending all our love and prayers to Jo and family.

Frank was a great friend and I was fortunate to travel to Scotland with him twice. I truly enjoyed the time with him and while I had not seen him in recent years, I always got a smile when I thought of those trips and the fun we had! He will truly be missed! God bless.

Frank was a dear friend of mine for 42 years and we played a lot of golf together...twice traveling to Scotland. Wherever he went, Frank never met a stranger...always striking up a conversation with other golfers, waitresses, local business owners, or whomever happened to be in close proximity! We talked by phone frequently in recent years discussing golf, politics, the stock market, or restaurants where we recently dined. Frank was fortunate to be able to retire early and enjoy many years playing golf, traveling and visiting family and friends. I will miss him dearly, but know that he is now safely with The Lord and enjoying "the fairways of Heaven".

It is with a heavy heart that I write these words in memory of one of the finest men I've ever known. Frank was more than a friend-he was family in all the ways that matter. His warmth and wisdom made every moment in his presence a joy. Whether we were deep in conversation or sharing a laugh over something simple, time with Frank was always meaningful.

He had an unmatched gift for making people feel seen and valued. His loyalty, generosity, and sense of humor left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to know him. I will forever cherish the memories we shared.

One thing I will miss the most-he always ended our calls by telling me he loved me. That never failed to warm my heart, and I´ll carry that love with me always.

To Jo and the family, please know how deeply loved Frank was and how deeply he will be missed. May the many beautiful memories bring comfort and peace in the days ahead.

With love and deepest sympathy,
Debbie Riddick
