Brookesville, FL - Francis Richard Swartz 86, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the Regional Medical Center-Bayonet Point in Hudson, Florida following surgery.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years Georgia (Bowman) Swartz; sister Olive Carrano; his children who adored him; daughters Deborah Vazquez; Pamela Labarr (Jim); Mary Arnold (Dan) sons; Donald Swartz; Frank Swartz (Teresa); Anthony Bowman; several grandchildren; great grandchildren and extended family members.

He was born on March 14, 1932 in Binghamton, NY; the son of Bert and Faletha Swartz. He developed a strong work ethic by helping support his family as a child. He was a master carpenter by trade and built many quality homes in the triple cities including his own.

Mr. Swartz was retired from the Binghamton City School district. He also was a 20 year veteran having served with the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was a long time member of the American Legion Post #186 Brookesville, Florida.

Mr. Swartz was an avid reader and loved to play BINGO!

He had a kind, gentle nature that people wanted to be around. He had a special quality of making people feel better in his presence.

He could whistle as though it were music to your ears along with blow bubbles off his tongue. He kept the grandchildren entertained by "pulling" off his finger! He was loved by his family very much and will truly be missed.

As per his request there will be no funeral or calling hours; instead take time with your loved ones and hold them close. Tell them how much you love them today because life is not guaranteed; it is but a vapor.

Fran will always have a special place in my heart.

Fran, my father, Leonard Tower, and Everett Sampson, years ago, started a reunion for the ARMY Reserve Unit they where in here in Binghamton, the 3/3/392nd. I have so many memories of spending hours going thru old ARMY records, looking for member's of the 392nd, going to Fran's place when he lived in Harpursville for the reunions.

After the flood of 2006, my father told me that he bought the lawn tractor Fran had out back of his property, for $150. I still have that to this day, and still use it, and I've never stopped even thinking about where that tractor came from, and who owned it before I did, and that was Fran.

He was a great friend to my father, and I remember my dad telling me when he went and helped Fran moved to FL, and went down there and stayed. It was really amazing for Fran and his wife to allow my father to do that, and he talked about that for YEARS after that.

Fran presented me with a plaque for my efforts gathering information for the reunion, which was a passion Fran had, and so did I. That was an amazing thing that Fran did for me, and I never expected it, and I'll never forget it.

Fran would love to know, and I didn't have a current contact number for him, but this year I am putting a reunion back together for the member's of the 392nd, and this year....It's for sure going into Fran's memory.

My cell phone number is 607-372-1403, I know Fran would be okay with me telling everyone about a reunion this year. And for Fran's family, I'll make sure they'll get in for free.

Rest In Peace Fran, you were a huge influence in my life, I'm glad to know you.
