Francis Xavier Toomey

Mrs. Toomey,
I am just learning about COL Toomey's passing. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. I worked for the COL, then MAJ, at Vint Hill Farms. Newly returned from Vietnam and now with a family, both you and he welcomed us to the post. Kathy still remembers very fondly your grace with her and our newborn daughter. You calmed her fears of being in such a unique environment and so far from home for the first time. Thank you. I was especially blessed to have the honor of then COL Toomey to pin my Warrant Officer bars on in 1985 at Fort Devens. Especially so since that was the end of a journey he and I discussed beginning at Vint Hill. I often thought about him throughout my career. He was a wise and sage man. We miss him dearly.

Frank Toomey was a grand man. Those of us who had the privilege of being on his team were blessed by his leadership and mentorship. I have wonderful memories of fishing with him in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado. He was a great patriot, a wonderful Father and Husband; he set the example for us in so many ways. Frank was a good friend and mentor. He will be missed.

Commander of USASAFS-Korea on my first tour in the army. Pinned my Warrant Bars 9 years later at Ft Devens MA. He was a great mentor and leader.

Sorry to hear about Col Toomey. I served with him at Sinop, Turkey 1981-82. Kept me on my toes especially during sunday mass followed by softball. He will be missed!
