I knew Mr. Machado in 9th grade I would speak to him saying hi to him in the halls and he told me that my Spanish was really good . I will be keeping my thoughts to his family. .... Ashley Arrowsmith (Charlotte, NC)

Senor Machado was my favorite teacher at South Mecklenburg. He was a wonderful man with a true sense of humor! I hope I am making him proud as I am living in Mexico among an Indian group and using my Spanish everyday!

Mr. Machado was an amazing teacher and person. I can still remember walking in to his class and the funny stories and comments that he would make. They were so candid and honest. I am very sorry that he is no longer with us but he will always be remembered. The lessons and advice that I receive from him I will always treasure.

Senor Machado was probably the teacher I will remember most at South Mecklenburg. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in his class and advocating political arguments between him and Mr. Proctor, and I could never get enough of his stories. He was a great man and will definitely be missed by all those who had the pleasure of having him as a teacher and friend.

Mr. Machado is one of the few teachers at South Meck that made a lasting impression on me. He was such a fun teacher, and I loved his stories! I am very saddened by this news, and I'll be praying for his family and friends.

Senor Machado was such a fixture of my South Meck days. He supported and challenged me to be better. Such a wonderful teacher and even better soul. We honor him by celebrating his life.

I fondly remember my time in Senor Machado's classes at South Mecklenburg (Class of '97). His laughter and sense of humor were infectious. It was always obvious that he cared for his students and that he loved life in general. My prayers will be with his family and his friends.

Senor Machado was a great friend! I loved him since 1997, when I came to South Meck as his substitute. The next year I was teaching next to his room .... still there... missing my friend. No more Young Republicans Club, no more hunting on Fridays, no more chocolate bars at lunch! Adios amigo.

I remember the Machado family coming to the US in 1962.Mr and Mrs Machado soon became fast friends of my father (Gilberto Colina) and his family...the senior Mr Machado would soon be working at my father's side at the Mercy Hospital Pharmacy. Our families enjoyed many fabulous meals and happy occasions together over the years!! Gilberto sadly passed on 2/1/2009, but his family...Marguerite, Michael and Marsha wish to send all of our heart's love and condolences at this our most difficult time. May God shed His blessings on both of our families and wrap our loved ones in His arms in Heaven. We love you. The Colina Family

Frank, We taked many times about your travels and connection with Cuba at South Meck during our time together as teachers. I'll miss your spirit. You left me your legacy for humor and the love of Cuban music.

Machado, as we called you, you were a wonderful leader and a true mentor to me in my first years of teaching. Your humor and encouragement were always welcome and your unique ability to be blunt without being unkind will always inspire me. Vaya con dios, mi amigo.

Frank, my fellow educator- what fun it was to ride with you to Sun Valley High School (even a few times on bicycles)! All the jokes, stories and laughs we had. Just a couple of Charlotte people who found humor in most everything and irony in the rest. May you find heaven lots more interesting and exciting!

Senor Machado was one of my favorite teachers at South Meck. I only saw him a handful of times since I graduated ('92), but I was just telling someone about him a few days ago. I will always remember his sense of humor and that he made Spanish 4 & 5 truly enjoyable classes. (I had two close friends who took both classes with me, and he often referred to us as the three monkeys -- See No Evil, Hear No Evil and Speak No Evil.) I am truly sorry to hear about his illness and passing -- and that I never followed through on recent thoughts of trying to catch up with him. I will keep your family in my prayers.
