Braden, Sr., M.D., passed away at his Coraopolis home/Doctor's Office on Monday, May 19, 2014. Graduating from Coraopolis High School, Class of 1926, Dr. Braden obtained his BA from the University of Pennsylvania in 1930, Doctor of Medicine in 1933 and served his Internship at Allegheny General Hospital 1933-1934. He was Attending Physician in both the Medical and Surgical Clinics of Allegheny General Hospital 1935-1941, Venereal Disease Clinic State of PA, Dept. of Health 1935-1941 and again in 1946. He proudly served in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army 1941-1946, rising from 1st Lt. to Lt. Col., a part of the Medical Regiment, Infantry Battalion, a Tank Destroyer Battalion, Engineer Combat Group and a Combat Command of the 8th Armored Division. The public schools of the area, Coraopolis, Neville Island, and Moon Township employed him as the Medical Examiner from 1945-1978. He served as President of the Medical Staff of Sewickley Valley Hospital from 1955-56. His professional memberships included the PA State Medical Society, American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians-Charter Fellow and Allegheny County Medical Staff. From 1955-58, he served on the Board of Directors for the Allegheny County Medical Society. He was the Medical Liaison, Caribbean Cruise Medical Seminars of U. of Pennsylvania Medical School 1956, Ohio State University Medical School 1957, and Jefferson Medical School 1958 and was Instructor of the Sewickley Valley Hospital School of Nursing and the Coraopolis Public Schools. Visitation Wednesday 7-9 and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. (Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m.) at COPELAND'S CORAOPOLIS, 867 Fifth Ave., where service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow with full military honors in Coraopolis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Presbyterian Church of Coraopolis, 1201 Fifth Ave., Coraopolis, PA 15108 or Heritage Valley Sewickley Foundation, 720 Blackburn Rd., Sewickley, PA 15108. The family would like to thank Dr. Chris O'Donnell and staff for their supportive and loving care. Dr. Braden, depicted well from the Norman Rockwell painting, fondly known by many that he cared for through his longtime private practice as "Uncle Buck," was known to have a Manhattan or two, wear plaid pants, had a great sense of humor, a merry twinkle in his eye and occasionally would use colorful language. He lived life to the fullest, never refusing an invitation to a party or a dance. We salute you for your love and devotion to our wonderful little town. We love you and will deeply miss you.

Dear Braden family,
Thank you for the many hours spent in laughter and love with the extended Bubb family. Doc Braden nominated himself our honorary grandfather at our Grandad's funeral/wake at the VFW; an afternoon that even many manhattans couldn't erase. I remember going to sit and visit next door with "old" Doc Braden, Which was Buck's retired father back in the early 1960s. So glad that you safely delivered me and several siblings & cousins. My daughter especially enjoyed visiting you during our trips up in the past 15 years or so. Thank you for showing me in person what "a lion's heart" truly is: courageous, stalwart, cheerful, loving, and kind. You will be missed; however you will be remembered with lots of funny stories for generations to come! Prayers and sympathy to your loving family, The Krix Family (née Cary Rich), Atlanta, GA

Uncle Buck was a truly remarkable man and had a special place in my heart. He will be missed. I was thinking of him on Memorial Day and wondering if he was going to lead the parade ... he is ... it's just a different parade. Now I hope he and Mem are sharing Manhattans with my grandparents. What a party that will be.

My Mom (Suzy) talked about when she would visit your family, and would be washing the dishes, and suddenly Uncle Bob would give her an immunization for something in her arm. I remember the great old house, Uncle Bob's big personality, and of course his plaid pants. My condolences to your family.

Pam and family...my sincere condolences. Your Dad was a remarkable man and I was honored to have known him. His legacy lives on as to what ethics, professionalism and true caring is all about. More today should practice what he lived every day of his life. He will be missed but always fondly remembered for all his good work and deeds. I was saddened to hear about the loss of such a wonderful, caring doctor. Heard many stories about "Doc" from my dad and his family who grew up in Coraopolis. I was a patient since 1958 & credit him for diagnosing me with diabetes in 1981. He rejoiced to hear that I had a successful kidney/pancreas transplant in 1996. He was tough, but honest and caring. Will always remember his office filled with a variety of cool knick-knacks & pictures. I actually bought the Norman Rockwell painting because it "is" your dad! Sympathies to your family & thank you for sharing some memories in the video at Copeland's.

Rest in Peace Doctor Braden! You were certainly one of a kind, and trust me when I say that I mean that in a good way. In my humble opinion, all Doctors should try to be more like you. Your family, Coraopolis and all of your friends and patients have lost a wonderful man. You will be missed by so many people. Again, Rest in Peace sir, it was an honor to know you.

To Buck and all of your extended family, What great memories I have of Doc--my school doctor, family doctor and all parties/reunions of the class of 1956. He loved life, and we knew he loved us. He made a difference, and we are better off because he made himself a part of our growing up. Bravo to Dr. Braden! Jane Houtz Alter

CORAOPOLIS has lost a one of it's finest. There is not one person that grew up in our little town that does not have a special story about Doc Braden. My favorite is about our exchange student, Akiko, who needed a sports physical to play on the school tennis team. She went to Doc Braden who chatted with her about her country, and did not charge her for the physical. She was so touched by his kindness to her. Sad day for CORAOPOLIS, but a happy day for heaven. My condolences to Pam, Buck, and family. Jayne DiCicco Keffer

Buck, How special it was that you're Dad was at the celebration for Nancy Lee in the summer of 2006. He was certainly very special to all of us those many years ago. Without him there would not have been all those movies he recorded. So many have special memories of your Dad. My condolences to your family.

We deeply loved Uncle Buck.
He was a wonderful friend to our family for decades...and single-handedly documented our lives with the hundreds of pictures he snapped at every occasion!
We enjoyed his sense of humor and his colorful language...as he always had us laughing.
He was quite a character, and was hands down, one of my favorite people on the planet.
Uncle Buck was a lucky man to have lived such an extraordinary life.....and we are so glad we were a part of it.
Pam, we are thinking of you and all the family.

Braden Family, We have cherished hearing the affectionate stories about your Dad since we became friends in Key West in the late 80's. Dad visited Key West and lit it up with his wit and enthusiasm for living. Another of the "greatest generation" joins those that served their nation in peace and war. What a wonderful legacy to leave not only for the family but for Coraopolis too! Dr. B touched everyone he met with his love of life and dedication to patients over decades. His light will be missed but surely never forgotten and all are blessed who knew him. Diane (one of the twins)

I will miss Doc, he made me laugh and was a wonderful person to chat with about everything. His wit was sharp and most enjoyable! I have been previliged and honored to know him. When his 100th birthday party was being organized, he said the party should go on even if he should pass away before the party date, Doc Braden's words were "cause everyone likes a party"!

I will always remember his smile!

A great loss not only for Coraopolis but for the medical community in general. He was probably one of the few doctors left who came from an era when doctors actually made house calls. He knew almost everyone in town and delivered many of them. He had a great sense of humor, and you were always welcome in his home. My love and condolences go out to the Braden family.
