Frank E. Cotten, 87, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2017 at McLaren's Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Frank was born July 6, 1930 in Redfield, Iowa to Clifford and Golda (Williamson) Cotten. He was a Navy Korean War veteran assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB), better known as the Seabees, working on the airstrips. Frank spent many winters in Arizona, traveling and camping. He was an avid woodcarver, and was a member of many woodcarving clubs. In his spare time, he enjoyed horseshoes and dancing.

Survivors include his sons, Bob (Debbie) Cotten of Norwalk and Jeff Cotten of Des Moines; daughters, Cindy (Thomas) Spencer of New Johnsonville, TN and Connie (Steve) Wood of Murray, IA; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louise; three brothers and one sister; granddaughter, Nikki and great-grandson Blake.

Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McLaren's Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

The Gillettes send our deepest sympathy. We were family! We will miss his sense of humor,and his fun loving spirit but most of all his laugh!! We always looked forward to him coming here for the winter. It will not be the same without him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in the days to come.
