Frank DAVIES Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Aug. 17, 2011.

DAVIES, Capt. Frank Geoffrey Lloyd July 8, 1945 - August 15, 2011 Our `Cappy' passed away with family by his side in Vancouver, after a courageous battle with cancer. Originally from Montreal West, he is predeceased by his parents Edgar and Mollie (Hewitt) Davies. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 39 years, Carol (nee Gernon); his three daughters Krysta (Anthony) Foss, Kelly (Tyler) Dumont, Kerri (Cameron) Buschel and his cherished grandchildren, Kaelem, Brayden, Justin, Joshua, Matthew, Dylan, Kate and Charlotte. He is fondly remembered by his extended family and close friends. Frank was known for his love of life and family, passion for flying and gardening, and his ability to make every person he met feel special. He never lost his sense of humour nor his contagious, heart warming smile and charm. Our family would like to gratefully acknowledge all the support received from Frank's medical team, especially his VGH angels on T15 and CP6, Dr. J. Connors, Dr. C. Toze and team, Dr. A. Lee, Dr. K. Shojania, Dr. D. Anderson and White Rock Home Care. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Church, 2250-150 St., Surrey. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made in his name to the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program of BC (VGH) or the BC Cancer Foundation. The world lost a beautiful light, but the heavens are all the brighter for it. Condolences may be offered at www.victoryfuneralcentre.ca

To: Carol and family,

I had the great privilege of knowing Frank, as well as flying with him during our days at Nordair. All the following airline mergers separated us, but I will always have fond memories of his professionalism and friendliness.

A great man has left us, but the memories will always live.

To Frank's Family,
I am saddened to hear Frank endured his particular illness which my wife of 41 years has now and have sat with her during treatments. Whenever I returned to Montreal West I always stopped into Davies Brother's in hopes he'd be there and one day I did with my children to have them meet him and Edger and have their picture taken with them .
My fondest memory was to go to the family farm in Cote St Luc to ride Shetland ponies with Frank and many good friends like Shirley Pickles. Then CSL was "country ". Frank and I knew each other from kindergarten at EBS through high school. I was proud to know he became a pilot and learned from Edgar that he first flew the mail in NFLD working his way up to commercial airline Captain ,a real" hometown boy "made good. My wife Sharron and I send our sincere condolences .

I was very sad to hear about Frank's passing. When I first met him several years ago I remember thinking that he was intelligent, gregarious, charming and full of life. Dear Carol, Krysta, Kelly, Kerri, and family,
It was with enormous sadness that I received the news of Frank's passing from Mum up in Montreal. Frank was a cousin that from my earliest memory was always larger than life. He was the teenage cousin with style and panache, but someone who always had time for his younger cousins. As Frank grew into an adult we had the joy of him living on the West Island both before and after meeting and marrying the love of his life. When I think of Frank I will remember his incredible humour and passion for life, he would warm a room and bring a spontaneous smile to all of those around him. Late in life he fought a battle for many years that would have beat many a lesser mortals. My cousin Frank was certainly larger than life and lived it to the fullest.Maria, Margaret, Walker and I send our heartfelt condolences to Carol, Krysta, Kelly and Kerri and their husbands and children as they mourn the loss of dear Frank.
Our love and prayers are with you all,
Chris

Dear Aunty Carol and girls,

I am truly saddened to hear of Uncle Frank's passing. He was so brave and never let his illness impede his great sense of life. Heather and the children also send their thoughts and hopes to you and your family at this most difficult of times. How wonderful that he was able to live such a fruitful life and be part of your lives for so many years. I'm sure that having his wisdom and love has been a great joy for you.

Having Uncle Frank visit Roxboro was always a special occassion even if it was just for a couple of hours on a layover in Dorval to see his mother. It is obvious that you were very fortunate to have such a fine man as your father and husband - the kind of role model that everyone aspires to be.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences at this most difficult time.

With Our Sincere Sympathy,

Christopher & Heather Hewitt & kids

One of my fondest memories of Frank is the one where he met my father (a taxi driver at the time) at Mr. Gernon's funeral and upon being introduced to him, said, "I hear we're both in the transportation business." I was so impressed by his humility and sense of humour. What a nice guy!

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To all of Frank's family - how sad it is today, to learn of Frank's passing. He was a very old friend of Montreal West days and our family always did our shopping at Davies Bros. store.
Frank will always be remembered for his fun loving ways, his great smile and his ability to get along with everyone.
His family will miss him terribly, but they, like the rest of us, will have such wonderful memories to keep with them always.
Rest in peace Frank - you deserve it.

Frank was so loved by many, I remember when he offered to teach me to do a hold pattern in a Cesna 172 around Dorval airport. He said that he should advise the tower so he signed on as follows, " Dorval tower this is Captain Davies from Nordair ... He was promptly interrupted and was told " Frank , Nordair doesn't have any Cesnas". We all had a good laugh including Frank. I shall miss him a lot.

Although I haven't seen him in years, I remember the last time that last time that I did. He was the pilot on a flight that I took back to Toronto from Montreal. After they announced who the pilot was as we were taking off, I asked the flight attendant to say Hi to Uncle Frank for me. She came back to tell me that he had invited me up to the cockpit for a visit. I felt so special as I walked up to the front, and I had the nicest time catching up on everyone as I enjoyed the view. Uncle Frank was definitely the coolest Uncle of all my Uncles.

August 17, 2011

Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to all of the family and friends who have lost Uncle Frank.
