1926 ~ 2016
Sandy, UT-Frank Calvert Davis, Jr. age 89, died peacefully on March 24, 2016. He was born in July of 1926 of honored parents, Frank C. Davis, Sr. and Agnes Hamilton Wilson Davis. His Mother died in 1931 leaving him at age-five to be raised by his Dad, his sister Mary Elizabeth (Beth McDonald), and three brothers Clyde W., Harold C., and Lynn H. Davis. They all preceded him in death.
Frank was educated in Salt Lake City schools, graduating from South High in 1943. During his freshman year at the University of Utah, he volunteered for the Army Air Corps. By the time he was called up for active duty, the war was nearing an end. He fought in the "Battle of Biloxi, Mississippi" (Keesler AFB) then at Traux AFB near Madison, Wisconsin. He was honorably discharged in November 1945.
Upon his return from missionary service in the British Isles Mission, he continued his education at BYU, majoring in journalism while working part time in the Deseret News Provo Bureau. He remained unwaveringly loyal to the Cougar Royal Blue for the rest of his life.
He worked for the Deseret News for forty years as a photographer, reporter, City Editor, and finally as Assistant Editor of the LDS Church News. He was honored multiple times as a recipient of the Mark E. Petersen Award for journalistic excellence.
His life's greatest blessing was his Salt Lake Temple marriage to Joyce Andrus Davis in 1950. They lived together for 62 wonderful years before her death in April 2013. Their LDS Church service included three full time missions - St. George, Utah Historic Sites; Honolulu, Hawaii Public Affairs; Utah Salt Lake City Mission Office; and as Church Service Missionaries as Hosts at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.
Frank loved his Church service; travel with Joyce, fishing the Yellowstone River, and the Canadian Rockies. In the end, his greatest challenge was enduring to the end without the companionship of his dear wife. We are blessed by our knowledge that they are happily together again.
Special thanks to the staff of Alta Ridge Assisted Living and Millcreek Homecare and Hospice for your compassionate service to Frank over the past two years and especially in his final days.
Survived by his children: Scott (Cathie) Davis; Wayne (Beth) Davis; Carol (Stewart) Robinson and Cory (Sharon) Davis; Sixteen Grandchildren; Twenty-nine Great Grand Children and wonderful Grandchildren-in-law.
A Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 31st at 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM at Holladay~Cottonwood Mortuary - 4670 S. Highland Drive, Holladay, UT.
The Funeral at 12:00 Noon on Friday, April 1st will be preceded by a viewing at 10:30 AM at the East Millcreek 16th Ward Chapel located at 3408 S. Celeste Way, Salt Lake City (approx 3100 East).

Frank was the connection between the the "other side" of the family and the LDS side. His kindness went to the to the point where he and Joyce traveled to California for my son's wedding, and sat through a long Catholic Mass! He will be missed, and he has been appreciated.

I loved Frank with all of my heart. He was my overall pride and joy at work. I cannot say that there was ever a moment that I was displeased with this amazing man, or if there was ever a moment that I was not smiling while talking to him. I will always appreciate how Frank would take the time out of his day to come talk to me towards the end of my shift. He liked the music I would play for him during this time and he would dance to it while I was charting my duties or he would tell me stories about his lovely wife and children. One memory in particular that I will never forget is how Mr. Davis thought he had upset me on one of my off nights and he had talked to the graveyard shift aid, asking her if I was okay. I came in the next day to him apologizing because he thought he had upset me, which he never did, but he still made the effort to make sure I was happy. I can tell how wonderful Frank was and I will always remember him. I hope the Davis family is doing well and I give you my condolences. Much love, everyone and may Frank always be with you.
