Frank Griswold, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 15, 2025.
Retired investment executive and Marshfield, Massachusetts resident Frank M. Griswold, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on November 27, 2024 at the age of 80. Frank was born in Worcester and graduated from St. John's High School in Shrewsbury before attending Merrimack College where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Following graduation, Frank began his investment career as a broker with F.S. Moseley and Company in their Worcester office. He then assumed investment management positions at both Mechanics Bank in Worcester and Third National Bank in Springfield before moving east where he became Senior Vice President and Head of the Fixed-Income Management Division at Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company.

Subsequent to his years at Boston Safe, Frank became Chief Investment Officer of John Hancock Advisers, the mutual fund subsidiary of the insurance company in Boston, where he developed a host of new investment products, raised overall investment performance, and developed a national wholesale network dedicated to the broker/dealer community.

Prior to his retirement, Frank served as Managing Director at Charles River Management Company, a fixed-income management boutique in Boston, and Director of Citadel Research & Analytics where he specialized in performance analytics for professional investors.

In his spare time Frank was a man of many talents, spending much of his free time working with his hands, whether it be carpentry, mechanical repair, or plumbing. It wasn't unusual to find Frank completing a project for a friend or even a friend-of-a-friend. His eagerness to help others was deeply ingrained and he was happy to help out even if just for the sake of it. When he wasn't performing as a craftsman, Frank could be found engaged in his second passion which was cooking. He often could not resist trying a new recipe he found on television or online and took pride in sharing the results with friends and neighbors. Frank was also a big fan of Merrimack College hockey and took great joy every time the team played on Hockey East telecasts or in the NCAA tournament.

Frank's friendly demeanor, his sense of humor, and his abundant and infectious good cheer will be sorely missed by all who knew him and looked forward to his company. He is survived by his sisters Carolyn Connors of West Boylston, Massachusetts and Patricia Larson of Holden, Massachusetts. "Better sisters one could not have," he would often say. Donations on Frank's behalf can be made to Boston Rescue Mission, 39 Kingston Street, Boston, MA or to St. Francis House, PO Box 120499, Essex Station, Boston, MA.

A Friend

January 15, 2025

Heavenly Father...it is with a heavy heart that I ask and pray for you to bless my dear friend and spiritual brother who has gone to his rest in the hope of rising again. Please keep Frank by your side in the light of your presence and in the merciful embrace of your kingdom in heaven.
Please remember Frank least for his failings and most for his generosity, kind spirit, and his eagerness to help others -- all of which he was known for by those who knew him best.
Though Frank could appear indifferent at times, his heart never bore malice toward anyone and he always stood ready to lend a helping hand to someone in need. Indeed, Frank's selflessness and willingness to help on a moment's notice were hallmarks of his decency and concern for the needs of others.
Calling unto you God our Father, we thank you for the gift of Frank's friendship and abundant good cheer he brought to everyone each and every day. Accordingly, we solemnly ask that Frank's soul be forever blessed, his presence forever felt, and his memory cherished always.

Amen
