Frank Messina Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 9 to Mar. 10, 2021.
Frank A. Messina, Jr.

Frank A Messina, Jr. died on March 3, 2021 as a result of an accident at his home. Frank is survived by his beloved wife Lauralee Messina of Port Washington, NY, his parents Frank A. Messina, Sr. and Joan-Ellen Messina of Chatham, MA, his brother and sister-in-law Joseph P. Messina and Jessica Tyler of Duxbury, MA, his mother-in-law Elizabeth Guy and sister-in-law Cindy Nadal of Winston-Salem, N.C., brothers-in-law Ray Sharp of Galveston, TX, and Chris Guy of Florida. Frank also leaves behind dozens of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends, too many to name.

Frank was raised in Leonia, N.J. and attended Leonia High School '80. Frank graduated from Drew University in 1984 with a degree in Economics and Political Science and attended the London School of Economics. Frank made his career as a financial advisor in New York City at firms such E.F. Hutton, Lebenthal & Co and Merrill Lynch. At the time of his passing he was a Vice President at Raymond James in Woodbury, N.Y.

Frank married the love of his life Lauralee Sharp in September 1990 and they made their life together in Port Washington, N.Y. where they shared their passion for the ocean and the outdoors. Frank was an avid sailor and was quite literally obsessed with the sport of windsurfing from its earliest days in the 1980's. He also enjoyed surfcasting for striped bass along the beaches of Long Island and Cape Cod, travelling from place to place in his specially modified 4X4 Ford van filled with windsurfers, a quiver of sails and fishing equipment. Frank was an enthusiastic advocate for the environment and the recreational access to the beaches of Long Island and an active member of the windsurfing, sailing, and surfing communities. He is remembered by those who knew him as sincere, inquisitive, vivacious and caring. His untimely passing leaves a void in the lives of many.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions no services are presently planned, however, a celebration of Frank's life will be held in the summer of 2021. Donations in Frank's memory can be made to: The Surfrider Foundation, dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's Oceans. WWW.surfrider.org .

I met Frank and his family at our boatyard when he was a teenager, I later taught him to windsurf and he was my best student. He also met Lauralee at our boatyard and we enjoyed many years of sailing and friendship.
Rest in peace, you will be missed.

What sad news. We worked together years ago and he was always someone you could count on. He was highly respected and admired. He set standards for the new members of the firm. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time of loss.

My sincere sympathy. I have been his client since his days at Lebenthal. He always sold quality products; I didn't lose money investing with him. I never met him personally but we had many good conversations.
He loved his family very much. I will miss him.

Frank was my friend. I inherited Frank as my Financial advisor from my late husband In 2006. Frank helped me through that grief and then continued to be there for me. He helped me retire early from a job that no longer brought me joy. I followed him for Merrill to Raymond James. I loved chatting with Frank as the topics were spontaneous and fun. He would listen intently about things I was into and I would hear about his wind sailing and his wife Lauralee. I cannot imagine her grief, I only know mine. My heart goes out to her. I will miss him. May he help change the world from his new position. God Bless, my friend!

I have been a client of Frank’s for over 30 years. My parents were clients of Frank’s before me. Frank was so much more than a broker. He was a trusted friend that was always available for advice or just to gab. We all know Frank loved to talk and talked about his loving relationship with Lori, his admiration for his parents, his love for the sea and surf. I’ve followed Frank from Lebenthal to Merrill, to RJ. I was so shocked to hear of his passing. I feel like I lost a family member. May he Rest In Peace.

Frank was one of the most beautiful human beings I have ever met, both inside and out. I met him in college and reconnected with him in middle age. Unsurprisingly, he remained forever youthful and optimistic in his outlook on life : eager to share his love of music and the ocean. My heart goes out to his family and friends with the hope that the memories they have of Frank will be a blessing.

Thinking of the Messina family during this difficult time. So many fond memories of Frank as we all grew up together in a small town. Sailing, soccer, theatre and more - a true Renaissance man. He will be dearly missed. Sending condolences, deepest sympathies and all our love from the Holm-Olsen family.

Frank was one of my closest friends in Leonia during what for a most kids is a universally tough time in life, adolescence. Frank was always there with a smile, offering friendship and time to just hang out and while away the hours. Later on in life, he memorably took me sailing on Long Island Sound, an experience that remains with me to this day mostly for Frank's calm helmsmanship in rough seas that clearly was a harbinger of his life aquatic to come. Rest in peace Frank, and thanks for your friendship when it mattered most. Eri unico al mondo.

Always called himself..."First Born"...he was our "Selkie" Irish legend of a seal who wanted to be human...but returned to the sea.
