Frank Peterson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 31, 2006 to Jan. 2, 2007.
PETERSON, Dr. Frank Lowell October 1, 1934 - December 25, 2006 It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear and beloved Frank. His family and loved ones were able to be at his side in the days and moments up to his quiet departure. Frank is pre-deceased by his eldest son, Si; father, Monte; mother, Martha; grand-daughter, Sarah; in-laws, Bud and Pat Swan; brother-in-law, Gary; and his nephew, baby James. Frank is survived by his loving wife and soul-mate, Jennifer Swan, six living children, twenty three grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Included are daughter, Lori (Brian) Eakett and their children, Stacy (Shane) Hillmer, Doug and his son, Dagan, Kristi (Doug) Reid, Lindsay, Breanne, and Kelsea; son, David (Kimberle) and their children, Max, Abbey, Sam, Eli, and Lilly; daughter, Leigh-Ann (Eric) Watt and their children, Taylor, Justin, and Hallie; son, Benjamin (Rachel) and their children, Garrett, Gentry, Griffen, and Grey; daughter, Barbara (Richard) Steele and their children, Lauren, Spencer, Tyler, Carson, and Ethan; and youngest daughter, Trish. Other beloved family members include brother, Hal (Adele) and their children, Mona and her children, Kristen and Tara, Calvin (Judy) and their children, Sara and Jonathan; first wife and mother of his first six children, Anita (Marinus) Begineman; sister-in-law, Marian Swan and her son, David; sister-in-law, Jessica Swan (Peter) and her son, David; Bette-Ann (Bob) McCaffery and her children, Robin (Geoff) Drummond and their daughter, Reilly, Erin and her son, Ben and Thomas. Born in Stirling, Alberta, and raised in Milk River and Warner, Frank excelled at academics and sports, winning many awards and scholarships. He attended the U of A, and in 1957, earned a degree in Education, and in 1963, a degree in Dentistry, for which he was awarded the Gold Medal. Frank taught dentistry at the U of A for over twenty years, and practiced privately for forty years. He was known to his patients, and the dental community, for his gentle painless dentistry. A life-long sports fan, Frank coached many teams, and his passion for golf led him to serve as President of Highlands Golf Club. Frank, a self-taught musician, spent many years playing piano, guitar, singing in Jazz clubs, and was an active board member for the Yardbird Suite. The music played right up to his final moments. Frank is also missed by his cherished dogs, Luke and Marty. The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude for the care provided by homecare services, Dr. Micheal Princ, and especially Dr. Brad Stewart, whose compassion and friendship we will treasure forever. Truly a cool cat, Frank was suave, funny, brilliant and talented. He served others openly, but it is the quiet, private acts of kindness that most define him. He is sorely missed by us here, and lucky are those who are with him on the other side. To those who wish to extend thoughts, stories or memories of Frank may do so at [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Canada, or to the Edmonton Humane Society. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Frank's life will be held on Friday, January 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Highlands Golf Club, 6603 Ada Blvd. To send condolences, visit www.parkmemorial.com Park Memorial Edmonton 426-0050 Family Owned Funeral Home, Crematorium, Reception Centre

Dr. Petersen was our family dentist ever since we emigrated to Edmonton in 1968. I have never known him not to smile and share a joke and was the perfect example of a kind and gentle man. We will miss his gentle touch and his easy manner with his patients. He will be deeply missed.

Dr. Peterson was our family dentist for most of his professional career. I began seeing him when I was a teen, and we used to joke about growing old together...my husband and then daughter also joined me in making at least two visits per year. In the last few years we also got to meet Trish. And, yes, none of us ever had a painful visit. Frank seemed to have an instinct about the slightest discomfort and would immediately stop and address it. He was also most particular about having the perfect bite...he must have sculpted teeth in his sleep! When friends or coworkers complained about their dentists, I could confidently say, have I got the person for you! His passion for golf was well-known, but his musical talents comes as a surprise. It would have been great to get a sampling.
We miss our meticulous, gentle dentist...both as a dentist and a fine man. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy to his family.

Frank was the best dentist in the world. He had been my dentist since 1975, and then later became my family's dentist. My children loved him too. He was such a kind and gentle soul; I was sad when he retired and I am deeply saddened now. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Dear Jennifer, Trish (and ALL the Peterson Family):

You all showed such courage, love and respect for Frank in his final years/days and because of you he died peacefully at home surrounded by you all (including Luke, Marty & Blu, his devoted pets) and his beloved music playing in the background. Jennifer, you were Frank's soul-mate and best-friend and he told me many times how much he loved you and his family. Frank was a lucky man to have such a big wonderful, loving family...

Warmth, Wisdom, Compassion, Modesty, Dignity, Humour, Gentleness. So many descriptors come to mind when thinking of my brother-in-law Frank. The tremendous loss of Frank will be felt for many years to come. Especially, at family functions where we were always entertained with his musical talents, his jokes, his quick wit and the twinkle in his eye.

Folks, don't be sad, rejoice - Frank's finally free and is playing golf and entertaining all our loved ones on the "other side"... We will all meet again one day!! Frank - thanks for the wonderful, wonderful, fun memories...

Love,

Marian (Edmonton, AB)

My deepest condolences to everyone in Dr. Peterson's family. When Dr. retired in 2003, we patients had the opportunity to express ourselves in words for a book to be given to him. I did that by beginning "I know a man". I wrote and rewrote until I felt I had done my best. I hope Dr. Peterson was impressed. Since his retirement I had thought of him very often and when it was time for me to see Dr. Wesner, I asked about Dr. Peterson at all times. I shall miss him always and will NEVER forget him. God bless Dr. Peterson, you are at peace now. You truly were an incredible individual.

It was an honour to know Frank. He taught me dentistry in 1966 and I was pleased to play with him periodically in a band. I will always remember him as a skilled dentist and musician and a caring individual.
