DANBY - Frank P. Scavuzzo, 88, died Sunday, December 5, 2010, at his home, following a long illness.

He was born on July 14, 1922, in Plainfield, N.J., the son of Salvatore and Emma (Capanetti) Scavuzzo.

Mr. Scavuzzo attended school in Plainfield. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marines after serving four years in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He then returned to Plainfield and worked at various jobs before gaining employment with the U.S. Postal Service for which he worked more than 30 years before retiring.

On October 18, 1952, he married his wife of 58 years, Rosemary Sullivan in Woodbridge, N.J. Together they relocated to Danby in 1983.

He was a member of the VFW in Plainfield, N.J.

His hobbies included refinishing furniture, studying history and stamp collecting. The time most precious to him was when he was able to enjoy life in the company of his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary of Danby; one son, Gary Scavuzzo and wife Debra of Toms River, N.J.; two daughters, Ellen Scavuzzo-Duggan and husband Patrick of West Kingston, R.I. and Cynthia Corris of Milltown, N.J.; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Albert Scavuzzo.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at the St. Patrick's Church in Wallingford. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to a food bank of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I can still remember when Frank would leave a little message on mail that would pass through his hands. Sometimes it would just say "hi" Frank.
