1935 - 2011 Fred E. Barnett, Jr., 76, Atchison, Kansas, died Friday, September 16, 2011 at his residence in Atchison. Funeral services will be Friday, September 23, 2011 at 1 p.m., in the Chapel of Arensberg- Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Kelley officiating. The body will be cremated following these services. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, Sept. 22nd, from 7-8:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Sickle Cell Disease of Missouri and may be left in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.arensbergpruett.com. Fred was born August 19, 1935, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Fred E. Barnett, Sr., and Arletha Corbin Barnett. He attended elementary school in St. Joseph graduating from Bartlett High School. He and the former Margie F. Crockett were united in marriage on September 3, 1999 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Fred worked with Armour & Company of St. Joseph, Missouri, for over 30 years as a forklift operator until his retirement. Following his retirement, he chose to serve as a driver for the Atchison Project Concern for 16 years. He was a member of Grant Memorial A.M.E. Church of St. Joseph. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching wrestling on television, going to the casinos and attending auctions where occasionally he acquired "a good deal". Survivors include his wife, Margie Barnett, of the home, in Atchison; devoted step-daughter and kids, Tracey (Richard Burk) Boldridge, Atchison, KS; two granddaughters, Tahariah (Patrick) Ross, Kansas City, MO, Tychell Ross, Kansas City, MO; five great grandchildren, two sisters, Sandy Cruse, St. Joseph, MO, Pat Lankford, St. Joseph, MO; a half sister, Monica Hamilton, St. Joseph, MO; two brothers, Donald Barnett, Kansas City, MO, and Charles "Sonny" (Deborah) Barnett, Kansas City, MO. Fred was preceded in death by a son, Larry G. Barnett; two sisters, Arlene Robinson, Dorothy Smith; and one brother, Harold Barnett, and half- brother, Wayne Hortona.

He freddy are you up there giving everybody a hard time. You were certainly an entertaining co-worker in the Hotel cuts department at Armours in the Late 60's. You'll be missed. My condolences to classmate Marjie and family.
