Fred DeCaro Obituary

Published by Stamford Advocate & Greenwich Time on Feb. 21, 2023.
Fred A. DeCaro, Jr.
May 14, 1943 - February 20, 2023
Fred A. DeCaro Jr. passed away on Monday, February 20.
Fred was born on May 14, 1943, to Fred DeCaro and Philomena (Chiappetta) DeCaro. He grew up in North Mianus, where he was surrounded by dozens of cousins who loved and supported him in a way that is lost in today's transient society. He attended North Mianus School and Eastern Junior High and graduated from Greenwich High in 1961. He earned his B.S. in Accounting from Boston College in 1965, and his Juris Doctor from Fordham Law School in 1968. He subsequently enlisted in the Army Reserve and served as a member of the 11th Special Forces (Green Berets) for six years.
At a party of his law school classmates in 1967, Fred was introduced to the woman he would spend 53 years with. Fred married Frances Ann Henle in 1969, and their only child Fred DeCaro III was born in 1971.
During his career, Fred was a serial entrepreneur. He created, purchased, founded, and sold a series of small businesses and real estate projects including auto dealerships, a car wash, a travel agency, banks, and other entities. More important was the time he spent outside of his work, embracing his parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his own immediate family. With effusive joy he welcomed his daughter-in-law, Meg, in 2005 and the birth of his two granddaughters, Amy and Mary, into his life. Eventually he traded in his suits and ties for goofy sweatshirts with pictures of his granddaughters that he would proudly wear on any occasion.
Fred understood sacrifice from the example of his parents, who paid for his college and law school by endorsing his mom's paycheck and mailing it weekly to the schools. He understood his faith from the Jesuit priests at Boston College whom he bonded with. He prayed the rosary regularly.
Fred is survived by many cousins, his wife, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters, and his brother-in-law Joseph Henle who is more brother and less in-law.
Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 pm February 23rd at Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home at 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford CT.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am February 24th at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford CT.
Services are under the care of Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home located at 104 Myrtle Ave. Stamford, CT 06902. For online condolences please visit Gallagherfuneralhome.com

The Decaro family, what a terrific guy and friend. He sorely will be missed by all. Treasure the memories always. Like someone posted, Fred would say "we're related"...everyone from Cos Cob & the Italian community were related. Bev (Infanti) Derby and husband, Ed Derby (Ed & Fred attended Eastern Jr. High & high school together). Love to all

Dear Fran, Fred III, Meg and family

I cannot even begin to express the sadness I feel on hearing about Fred´s passing. I was so shocked to get this very sad news. Never for a moment did I think this would happen to him. Thru the hospitalization, surgery and rehab, he kept telling us that he was getting better and better and eagerly waiting to be discharged and get back to doing all the things he loves.

He loved you all and his two beautiful granddaughters whom he always talks about. I can imagine how heartbroken you all must be. We feel the same about Fred - he was our family here at Keller Williams and we are going to miss him terribly. He was a great family man and held his family so close to his heart. He was kind and generous and always ready to help anyone in need.

Words cannot express the loss we feel and I cannot imagine what you all must be feeling at this time. I pray for Fran and all the family for courage and strength at this difficult time.

May his soul Rest in Peace!

With my deepest sorrow and sympathies

Dear Fred Meg Amy and Mary - our thoughts and prayers are with all of you- we have fond memories whenever we met your Dad / grandfather- he always greeted us with a big smile and a warm bear hug!! Always engaged us into fun conversations about how we were all doing and how his family was . He was quite the man around town - knew everyone ! And if he wasn´t sure he would say he was probably related to them anyway ! He always a walking archive ! He kept up to date on things all over town and would always say how proud he was of his son who graduated from Harvard !! A father couldn´t be more proud of his son and when he got married we all danced at that wedding !!! Now his grand children were the most precious people in his life and when my children were smaller he always showered them with such praise - we know he did the same a hundred fold more with Amy and Mary - a wonderful DeCaro legacy will shine for many years to come - May he rest in peace and continue to shine his light through all of you- love from the Sam Romeo Family - and the Eddie Thivierge Family
