Fred and I have been friends since high school and I enjoyed talking to him all of the time. I was trying to help him with his book on Mike Bloomfield, and I was checking to see his progress when I discovered his phone was disconnected. That is when I got worried. Fred had a very keen mind and seemed very connected to the world. He was a very unusual person and will be missed a lot. He is probably up in Heaven now reading a political journal or sitting in a group of angels discussing the ills of us mortals down here in God's waiting room. I am glad that Fred was a friend. Good-bye, Fred - I will think of you often.

Your gravely voiced opinions will be greatly missed!! I knew you in Chicago, IL as well as Glenn, MI. I worked with you in Chicago and enjoyed our wide ranging conversations in Glenn. I had you nicknamed "Michigan Sage" in my cell phone. Goodbye to an acquaintance along the road of life.

Fred was a great Chicogoan and a great American. Before moving to Michigan, he was active in Democratic politics at the local and national levels. As a teen, he was a good friend to the young guitarist Michael Bloomfield. A witty conversationalist, a good neighbor, Fred will be missed.
