KARP, Fred - On Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, suddenly. Devoted son of the late David and Molly Karp and son-in-law to the late Sam and Mary Harris. Beloved husband to the love of his life, May. Loving father to Ellen (Chavi) Karp and Robert (Bob) Karp and father- in-law to William (Bill) Johnston. Cherished grandfather to Paul Karp-Johnston. Devoted brother and brother-in-law to Allen and Sharon Karp. Adoring uncle to Debra Karp Kwinter, Amy Karp Levine and Melanie Karp Godfrey. Fred was the gold medal recipient and ultimately a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and was President and Chief Executive Officer of Speedy Muffler King. He was a devoted volunteer to many charitable organizations; he was a member of the Boards of Directors of The Toronto Symphony Orchestra and The Mount Sinai Hospital (Toronto), was a past Treasurer and President, and was a past Chair of the Board of Governors of The Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care. Fred was a recipient of the Canadian Volunteer Award in recognition of outstanding voluntary service in improving the health and social well-being of Canadians, and was a recipient of The Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada in recognition of a significant contribution to compatriots, community and Canada. Fred (and May) have, for many years, been the sponsors of an annual students' symposium at The Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre. Fred was a passionate collector of Canadian art and an avid sailor of Arluk III. At Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue West (3 lights west of Dufferin) for service on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. Interment in Community Section of Pardes Shalom Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the interment at The Dunfield Retirement Residence, 77 Dunfield Avenue, Toronto (valet parking).
