Fred A. Work, age 76, of St. Louis, asleep in Jesus on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009.Loving father of David, Curt and Rik and wife Jeri Work; beloved brother of Don Tate and brother in heart of Shirley Edmison; grandfather of Corey, Taj, Connor, Riley, Nick, Lili and Sofia Work; and great-grandfather of Jake Work. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Goldia Work; his dear brothers and sisters, Richard Work, Christine Swan, Major General William Work, Frank Work, Maxine Young, David Work and Virginia Work. He was a cherished uncle and friend to many. Mr. Work was born in Mt. Vernon and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. He joined the military in 1951 during the Korean War and serv-ed six years. He was an artillery officer. Mr. Work started in the cemetery business in 1957 in St. Louis. He later owned Lakewood Park Cemetery, Lake Charles Memorial Park and Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. He was a true gentleman loved by many.Services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Lord Funeral Home, 2900 Telegraph Road, St. Louis, where you may call (314) 845-2838.Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
