Aug. 23, 1947 – Jan. 19, 2018. Funeral services for Freddie Thomas Thorne, 70 of Helmic will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Floyd officiating and James Due assisting. Burial will follow in Bennett Cemetery in Apple Springs, Texas. The family will receive visitors from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. service time at Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, Texas on Tuesday morning. Freddie was born on Aug. 23, 1947 in Lufkin, Texas to Duron and Annie Thorne. God called Mr. Thorne home on Friday, January 19, 2018 at a local hospital in Lufkin. He was a graduate of the 1965 class of Centerville High School and later served for two years in Vietnam in the United States Army. He worked as a logger in his early years and later retired from the Texas Prison System in 2014. He loved his family, gardening, ballgames, tractors, fishing, hunting, playing forty-two and his dog, "Sadie-Bell." Mr. Thorne is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Leggett and C.W. Thorne and three sisters: Lilly Young Harrison, Jeanette Thorne and Martha Jo Tullos. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Christine Thorne of Helmic; son, Brian Thorne and wife, Pam of Helmic; daughter, Kim Bentley and husband Stephen of Helmic; grandsons, Trevor Thorne and fiancé, Emiry, Logan Bentley and girlfriend, Danielle, Regan Bentley; great grandson, Rylan Thorne; sisters, Dorothy Harbuck of Lufkin and Patsy Hoagland of Mobile, Alabama; brother Duron Thorne, Jr. and wife, Beckie of Groveton; sister, Betty Lawson and brother-in-law, Henry from Hudson; special friends, Paul Mossenton, Jim Pugh and Rex Bailey and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers: Trevor Thorne, Logan Bentley, Regan Bentley, Rob Thorne, Jim Tullos and Brice Sailer. Memorial contributions are to be made to the ALS Foundation or to any disabled veterans association. We will all miss you uncle Freddie. Your were very dear to me and the rest of us nieces and nephews. There to many of to list. Aunt Chris you are in my prayers and thoughts. May our loving father bless and keep you. Brian and Kim and rest if the crew. We wanted to come but it was to much going on not that we did not want to com it just did work out that we were not able. So please know that you all are very dear to me. So I have and will keep you in my prsyets. It hard know but it does get better as it goes on. I love you all very much.
