Frederick Karl Bangert, 71, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at his home.
Fred was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 20, 1944 to the late Arthur and Mary Brandt Bangert. A graduate of Binghamton University and Syracuse University, Fred was a proud supporter of the Alumni’s. Fred worked as a QC Lab Manager for Bristol Myers for 32 years and then for Synthon. Since retiring, he loved to spend time fishing, camping, and traveling. Above all else, Fred loved his wife, Kathy, whom he shared 48 years with on June 3. He spent his time with Kathy and their family as often as he could capturing life’s moments as the “family photographer”.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Delli-Bovi) Bangert; children, Jonathan Bangert, Sarah Moore and her husband, Jeff, and Kate Roseman and her husband, Jeff; granddaughters, Hannah and Ashlyn Moore; sister, Eleanor Polgar; brothers in law, Deane Delli-Bovi and wife, Marie, and Jan Delli-Bovi; nephew, Ritchie Polgar and wife, Linda; and niece, Linda Harrison. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, Fred was a supporter of many charities: The American Diabetes Association, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer, The V Foundation for Cancer Research (Jimmy V), as well as Duke Hospital’s Brain Tumor Research.
A celebration of his life will be Monday, June 13, 2016 at 4pm in the McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel, 12830 US HWY 70 Business West, Clayton, NC 27520. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4pm prior to the service.

I worked with Fred in the 80's and remember him as always being such a pleasure to be around. He was a real gentleman, a teacher and a mentor. We all benefited so much just from having him as a friend. I know Fred lived a full, exciting life that was completed by the love and support he gave and received from his wonderful wife and family. May God bless you all.

In my early days at Synthon, the Netherlands I came into contact with Fred and immediately was captured by his open, friendly nature. Even though first contacts were through mail and telephone, I noticed how easy it was working with him and to talk about private things. Once I met him and traveled to several companies with him, this was confirmed. After his retirement I stayed in contact with him and was shocked to hear about his illness. Then, as positive as he was, he told through facebook that all went well with surgery. I was so surprised and shocked to hear about his dead.
My deepest condolences to all he left behind.
I will remember Fred as a great personality.

I remember Fred running cross country; the only one on our team that could beat Fred; was Fred Zittel and he was state champion; yes, Fred was really good in cross country. I love Fred so much; I will miss Fred as a friend on facebook, as a classmate at Port Jeff High and as a class act that having never heard Fred say anything mean about another human being; yes, it was easy to love Fred; God Bless Kathy and God Bless Fred's children and grand children; we will all be together again in Paradise with no more sicknesses or distances to keep us apart; God Bless you Fred for being such a good human being and a real gentleman. Your classmate and friend forever and ever; Pat Benson.

My first memories of Fred were living a block away, our kids played together and Fred never failed to put on the most incredible Halloween and Christmas displays in his front yard. Through the years I've met with Fred and Kathy to design and build several furniture pieces. When I would get a call from them I always looked forward to meeting again. Both of you have always been so friendly and respectful.

My superstar of childhood summers, so blonde and freckled and mischievous, you were more "big brother" than uncle. Losing you hits hard. I'm comforted in knowing you passed peacefully after your last troubles. We'll all miss you forever.

Dear Kathy, children and grandchildren of Fred,
It was a shock for me to read that Fred passed away. I read before about his brain surgery but did not expect that his condition was as such that he would die so soon. I want to give you my deepest condoleances.
I have known Fred since 2002 when he became my colleague at Synthon as Director QA. He has worked for Synthon untill his retirement in 2009 and we have met in between several times in the US and in Europe. I really have enjoyed working together with him. He always was friendly to everyone around him and well respected for his knowledge and experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry. He also expressed his love to his family and Kathy and I recall he really loved it to spend more time with all of you when he retired. I have met Fred and you Kathy when you together went to Europe to visit the Netherlands and Germany. It was a great day when you visited Nijmegen and came to our house. I did not realize then that this would be the last time I would see him alive.
I followed Fred and therewith you all the last years via facebook and was pleased to see how happy he was with his friends and family.
I wiss you all strenght for the coming period and will keep him in my memory.
My warmens greatings to all of you

Reading Fred's Facebook postings was one of my routines. It seems just like yesterday that we worked together at BMS. Great great guy to work with even when the QC results were not always what I wanted! Prayers and God's blessings for the family. >

I went all through grade school and high school with Fred. It is with deep sadness our old friend has left us. Our class was special, all caring for one another; so the entire class of '62 is grieving at the loss of our classmate. My deepest condolences to Kathy and his children at this very difficult time.

I had the pleasure to meet Mr Bangert and his lovely wife several years back while doing his landscaping and lawn maintenance. He honestly was one of the nicest and most likeable people I have ever met. He truly is in a better place than we are and he touched many people lives while here on earth. It just reminds me more and more its not what you have but who you are and how you treat people and I can truly say he inspired me to be a better human being and treat others the way you would want to be treated. God Bless your family and my heart goes out to the family. I just want to say " You will be dearly missed"!
