Just seen this. Became a good friend whilst working for Hiram Walker in London. Played squash each week, rarely beating him. Best wishes to all his family

Fred was one of the very best of Canada's naval officers who will be sadly missed. My heartfelt condolences to Gill, a cherished friend from the days of our youth, and her family

We remember Uncle Fred as a man with such energy and enthusiasm that he swept up all in in his wake - and that wonderful smile.

We send our love and support to Aunt Gill and the family.

Freddy Frewer, who was and continues to be, one of my very favorite Uncles will be remembered for his contagious humour, his generosity of spirit and those "eyes", that sparkled like no other! My love and thoughts are with Aunt Gill, my cousins and all of their families.

A lovely man. Captain Frewer provided my favorite interview when writing "The Bonnie". He was the quintessential naval officer; leading and inspiring by example and taking a genuine joy in the accomplishments of his crew.

What a wonderful man my Uncle Fred has been, and continues in our hearts. We will be thinking of our family and Fred's friends as you gather to celebrate his life April 6/05.

To Barry and your family, please accept my sincere condolences during this sad time. If your Dad was at all like mine (also a career officer), you will no doubt share a ton of "stories" as you gather to say goodbye. With respect,

My sincere condolences to Freddies family - you have lost a great person.

I was Flag Lieutenant to then Rear Admiral John Charles back in 1968 when Fred was the Captain of HMCS NADEN just before it became CFB Esquimalt. He was always most helpful to me in every way possible and I admired him greatly.

He was, in every respect, a true officer and gentleman.

Our paths crossed only briefly - at the ROGC in the late 1990s - but that was enough. I was a fan. It was with sadness that I read of the captain's passing but I feel privileged to have met him at all. What a peach!

Three things I most remember about Frewer:

He married the most beautiful girl in Ottawa.

As a destroyer Captain he was a superior ship handler.

He was one of the best squash players in both the RN and the RCN and he won the tennis cup at the Greenwich Staff College in London.

Many of us had the great pleasure of serving with then Commander "Freddie" Frewer and Captain "Fraser" Fraser-Harris in the carrier "Magnificent" during the final and happiest years of her commission. Fred was at home with the outgoing mavericks of naval aviation as well as lesser deck bound mortals. By his personal example and leadership along with Fraser, he created a team spirit and pride second to none in our post-war carriers. Fred will be well remembered and missed for a rare combination of qualities. The most memorable will always be his bright, irrepressible and generous spirit.

I had the pleasure of serving with Capt. Frewer onboard HMCS Bonaventure and again on the West Coast. A truly fine officer and a great leader.

My father H.Clifford Hatch Sr.was always a great friend and admirer of Fred's, initially in his navy days and latterly at Hiram Walker where Fred worked for many years.

Heartfelt condolences to the whole family..and what a family! I will always remember Captain Frewer's corny jokes and his sense of fun and generosity in including others like me in family activities over the years in Toronto, London and Hawaii get togethers.

I look back very fondly on Scott and Sandy's wedding when everyone gathered in Hawaii...a week long affair complete with tennis and golf with Captain Frewer beaming in pride from ear to ear! (even more so when he discovered he could get a Hawaii drivers license and golf at the local rate!)

My sincere condolences to the Family of Captain Frewer. I served with him on board the HMCS Magnificent in 1956. I recall quite vividly once evening during rounds when he put his hand on a hatchway door and it slammed. I believe he broke a couple of fingers in the incident.

My sincerest condolences to all of the family of Mr. Frewer. I will miss seeing all of you at Elisabeth Bruyere.

It was so beautiful how your family came to be by his side during his journey.
