MELHADO--Frederick

Anderson, died on February 27th in Palm Beach, with his wife, Virginia and his son, Peter by his side. Born on July 22, 1929 in New York City, the son of Allen and Louise Melhado, he was a graduate of St. Bernards, Phillips Exeter Academy, Yale, and Columbia University. He served in the U.S. Navy (Lt. j.g.) from 1953 to 1957. He was founder and chairman of Melhado, Flynn & Associates, a founding partner of Optima Fund Management, and a director of the Madison Fund and Sotheby's. He was a trustee of the Wildlife Conservation Society for over 25 years. He lived in New York City, Southampton, and Palm Beach, where he was a member of the Bath & Tennis Club and the Everglades Club. He is survived by Virginia, his wife of 34 years, and her four children, his son Peter Melhado, his six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christian, Nicholas, Peter, Owen, and Reed, and his nieces Pammy Griffin and Alexandra Weidlein. Frederick's son Christian Anderson Melhado, his sister, Pamela Gilpatric, and his first wife, Lydia Buhl Mann pre-deceased him. A marriage to Louise Grunwald ended in divorce in 1980. It can be fairly said that no one loved life more than Freddy. His extraordinary enthusiasm, cheerfulness, charm, optimism, intelligence, kindness, and humor brought laughter and love into the lives of his family and friends for nearly 89 years. He will be buried on Nantucket beside his parents and sister.
