Frederick Nickels Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 1, 2023.
Fred Nickels, 73, of Cape Coral, FL, embarked on his final adventure on December 12, 2022. Born on July 20, 1949, in Huntington, West Virginia, Fred, lovingly known as "Fred the Fantastic," was a true legend in the game of life.

Fred lived life with a twinkle in his eye and an insatiable thirst for exploration. With his beloved partner-in-crime, Patti, by his side, he traversed the globe, collecting stories and memories like precious souvenirs. No passport could contain his boundless spirit!

A master of caring and friendship, Fred had a knack for making everyone feel like a VIP. His attentive ear and genuine interest in others made him the life of every conversation. He had a way of bringing people together and creating a joyful atmosphere wherever he went.

When it came to his passion for holidays, Fred took it to a whole new level. His massive 1800's English Christmas Village was a sight to behold, spreading cheer far and wide. He had a knack for turning any occasion into a festive extravaganza!

Fred's love for Patti knew no bounds. He was her knight in shining armor, always there to open doors and protect her from the rain. The look of pride and adoration on his face whenever he gazed at her was enough to melt hearts for miles around. Their love story was nothing short of a fairytale.

In the realm of friendships, Fred was a true maestro. He orchestrated unforgettable outings, from Renaissance Fairs to Caribbean escapades, always putting people before places. His meticulous planning ensured that everyone had a carefree and blissful time. He truly knew how to create "Fred-tastic" memories!

Fred's educational journey started at Huntington East High School and continued at Marshall University, where he expanded his horizons and honed his zest for learning.

Fred leaves behind his cherished wife, Patti Nickels, and his daughter, Jennifer Nickels, to carry on his legacy. He was preceded in death by his parents, David G Nickels and Virginia D. Burgess, and his brother, Marshall G Nickels.

To honor Fred's incredible life, a Celebration of Life will be held after the holidays because, let's face it, Fred loved nothing more than a good party! Formal services will take a backseat as we gather to share stories, laughter, and perhaps a few tears of joy.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to the MBC Travelers Non-Profit Organization at www.mbctravelers.com. Let's keep Fred's adventurous spirit alive by supporting a cause near and dear to his heart.

Fred Nickels, the man who taught us the true meaning of "Carpe Diem," will forever hold a special place in our hearts. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary soul, let's remember him with laughter, share his jokes, and continue his legacy of living life to the fullest. Cheers to you, Fred, and may your spirit forever wander in search of new adventures!

Met Fred at a gathering. We spoke for a long time, and his attention never waved from my wife and I.

Fred was a good man and a good friend. We met back in 2005 and shortly after forged a friendship enduring life long. To know him was to love him, and he was loved by many. His relationship with his wife Patty was one of those epoch loves that many wish for, but few attain. Fred, may your star shime bright in the heavens. My very deepest condolences to Fred's loved ones, especially you Patty, for your loss.
