Frederick W. Panning, 98, died May 19, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee, Ohio. He was a resident of the Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek in Holland.

He was born on January 27, 1916, in Adams Township, Defiance Co., Ohio, to Henry G. and Dora (Gerken) Panning. Frederick moved to Toledo in his 20s and worked at the old Flower Hospital, National Supply Co. and retired in 1981, from Toledo Scale. He served in the Navy in World War II and was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in downtown Toledo. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking, baking, cabinetry, jigsaw puzzles and being "Mr. Fix-It" for his friends and family.

He is survived by his three children, Bonnie (John) Szul of Rossford, Deborah (Thomas) Lytle of Whitehouse, and Henry (Deborah) Panning of Downingtown, Pennsylvania; sisters, Pauline Flaugh of Indiana, Ida Jenkins of Tennessee and brother, Martin Panning of Wisconsin. Frederick had 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen R. Panning; his parents; three sisters and three brothers.

The family will receive friends at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd at Byrne Rd on Saturday, May 24, 2014, after 9:30 a.m. where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Okolona.

The family requests no flowers, but supports donations in Frederick's memory to Lutheran Social Services of Northwestern Ohio
