Frederick Jackson "Jack" Sessoms

Frederick Jackson "Jack" Sessoms, of Hendersonville, passed away at his home on Friday, August 24, 2018. He was born on January 14, 1929 the only son of the late Fred and Ora Talley Sessoms. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Florence Valaer Sessoms; as well as his step-son, Chris Merino.
He attended Guilford College and the University of North Carolina, and proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the co-owner and president of the Wimbish Insurance Agency, Inc., located in Greensboro, North Carolina until his retirement in 1994. He was a past president of the Greensboro Association of Insurance Agents, past director of IIANC and served for nine years on the Guilford City/County Insurance Advisory Committee.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 24 years, Sandy Sessoms; three children: Keith Sessoms of Greensboro, Fred Sessoms of San Diego, CA and Hollis Sessoms Burden and Jerry Burden of Carbondale, CO; one stepson: Mike Merino of Hendersonville; three grandchildren: Keith Sessoms, Jr., Pender Sessoms and Colter Burden; three step-grandchildren: Gregory, Olivia and Drew Merino of Houston, TX. He also leaves behind, two sisters-in-law: Pat Gass of Columbus, Barb Brock and her husband, Greg of Franklin, TN; niece, Martha McKissick and her family of Greenville, SC; and a nephew, John Wood, Jr. and his family of Greenville, SC.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville, with the Reverend Mark Ralls officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Jack's memory be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville, "Shepherd's Fund,' 204 Sixth Avenue West, Hendersonville, NC 28739 or to The Storehouse Food Bank of Hendersonville, P.O. Box 6146, Hendersonville, NC 28793.
