Fredrick (Fred) Baue Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 28, 2024.
Fredrick (Fred) W. Baue, 89, formally of Iron River, WI, passed away surrounded by his family on November, 27, 2024 at Northwoods Memory Care, Blaine, MN. Fred was born in Indianapolis, IN, son of the late Frieda and William Baue. On July 19th, 1958, Fred married Joy A. Manley in Ashland, WI. Theirs was an ever-lasting friendship, partnership, and love-affair of 50 years.

Fred served his Country in the Army, before obtaining his bachelor's and master's degree in industrial arts and education from UW-Stout. He taught in the Iron River, MI and Superior, WI school districts before joining Northwood Technical College (formally WITC). Fred spent 30 years in the technical college system, impacting thousands of students and faculty lives. He retired in 1995 as the WITC's Executive Vice President - Instructional Services.

Fred's service to others was evident in his active roles in the Elks Club, Moose Lodge, Lions Club, Men's Club, and the Lutheran and Presbyterian churches of Superior, Rice Lake, and Iron River, WI. He stayed active cutting wood for his wood stoves, playing racquet ball, trap shooting, woodworking, and golf.

Fred loved the outdoors, spending time on fishing trips in Canada and on Lake Ahmeek as well as duck, grouse, and deer hunting.

Fred was a smart, generous and caring man. He loved his wife, his family and friends, and telling a good story or joke.

Fred is preceded in death by his wife, Joy and brother Bill.

Survivors include his daughters, JoAnne (Robert) Mueller, Lino Lake, MN. and Susan (Jeff) Ruff, Ham Lake, MN.; son, Steven (Allyson) Baue, Green Bay, WI.; grandchildren, Karmen, Brent, Matthew, Brittney, Tayler, Mia, and Sydney; great-grandchildren Emmy, Rylee, Peyton, and Brynlee.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Northwoods Memory Care and Ecumen Hospice for the loving and attentive care of Fred and family over the last few months Fred was in their care.

A memorial service for Fred will be held in the Spring of 2025. The family asks that donations, if desired, be made to the Northwood Tech Foundation - Fred & Joy Baue Scholarship Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association.

My wife worked with Fred at WITC for 30 years. Always, always had a smile on his face and a pleasant demeanor. Never a harsh word at the work place. We enjoyed many social outings with Fred and Joy. Down-to-earth folks with hearts of gold. The world was a better place because of them. Rest well, Fred! You deserve it. With sympathy, Al Scholbrock
