Fredrik D. Bodin

Fredrik D. Bodin, 65, passed away August 28 at home in Rockport after an extended illness. Fred was born in NYC on July 28, 1950 and attended Alfred G. Berner High School in Massapequa, NY before earning his degree in photojournalism; Syracuse University 1972. Fred interned with the Museum of Fine Arts Boston; freelanced for Yankee Magazine, Houghton Mifflin, Little, Brown and Co., Inc.; and toured Europe and South America with the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. He authored two books on photography and taught at Endicott, Essex Community, and Montserrat Colleges. His latest gallery, Bodin Historic Photo and Fine Arts on Main Street in Gloucester, included darkroom prints from collections of the late Alice Curtis. He enjoyed involvement in civic duties, the HarborWalk, preserving the city's history, and contributing to *Good Morning Gloucester*. In February 2015, Fred was honored in a delegation to the State House to receive the Massachusetts Cultural Council's Commonwealth Award for "Creative Community". He loved hiking, biking, and rowing with the Gloucester Gig Rowers crew. Fred will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his longtime love, Janet Crary, her parents, Marilyn and David Crary of Eastham, MA and her family; his sister Barbara Bodin and her son Kristian Seney of Vineyard Haven, MA; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Fred A. Bodin and Virginia Bodin; and brother-in-law Robert Doss. Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Wednesday, September 2nd from 4 – 7 p.m. Memorial services will be private.
