Nancy Ross

Nancy Ross MORGANTON Nancy Joann Hice Ross, 60, of Morganton, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Nancy was born in Catawba County March 28, 1952, and was the daughter of the late Howard Hice Sr. and Toyie Lee Bumgarner Hice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne R. Ross; and a brother, Terry Lee Hice. She graduated from Granite Falls High School and earned an A.A.S. degree in Business from Caldwell Community College. While a student at CCC, Nancy was named to Who's Who in America's Junior Colleges. Her career was spent at Chesterfield Elementary School where she was a major part of the school for many years and was named Teacher Assistant of the Year several times. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, teacher and friend, she leaves to cherish her memory her sons, David Wayne Ross and wife, Heather and Brian A. Ross and wife, Katie, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Joshua Wayne Ross, Abigayle Rae Ross, Natalie Joann Ross and Destiny Silvers; brothers, Howard C. Hice Jr. and wife, Jenny and Roger Bumgarner and wife, Cindy, all of Hudson; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence Correll officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral hour.
