Fusa Otsuki Obituary
Fusa Aileen (Tomita) Otsuki, 93, died Monday, May 27, 2013, in Torrance, Calif. Fusa was born in Proctor, Colo., on July 12, 1919, to Hiosaku and Ai Tomita and was the fourth of eight children. She grew up in the Logan County Colorado area and graduated from Iliff High School in 1937. She then attended Colorado State University on a 4-H scholarship and majored in home economics.
She married Henry Otsuki on Sept. 16, 1940. They lived in Washington, D.C., and various cities in Kansas, including Garden City, before moving to Stillwater in 1958. Fusa was a consummate homemaker and an accomplished seamstress, and she enjoyed cooking, bridge and bowling. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in PTA, church circle, and the Agronomy Wives club. She was also a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program. Fusa worked in the Registrar's Office at Oklahoma State University from 1966 until she retired in 1981.
In 2000, she moved to Wilmington, Del., where she lived until 2008, at which time she moved to Torrance, Calif.
Fusa was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will always be remembered for her gentle, kind, and generous spirit and her positive outlook on life.
She is survived by a son, Wayne Otsuki (Katrine) of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara Thayer (Chet) of Wilmington, Del.; three grandchildren, Jason Thayer (Rian), Brenda De Castro, and Jonathon Otsuki (Sayoko); a great-grandson, Henry Thayer; and a sister, Yone Nakagawa.
In addition to her husband, Henry, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Miyo, Mitsu, Fumi, and Halu, as well as two brothers, Theodore and George.
A memorial service will be held at Simpson United Methodist Church with interment at Olinger Highland Cemetery, both in Denver, Colorado.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of dear Aunt Fusa - it is hard to believe that such a vital and vivacious soul is no longer with us. We know that these last few years have been difficult, but in our mind's eye, Aunt Fusa, when we last saw her, was caring, engaged, and active as always. We'll remember her that way.
We are sure Uncle Henry has put out the welcome party for her in heaven and a happy family reunion it must be up there.
We are sorry we can't make the memorial service and have asked David to carry the Komuro banner in our stead. We will be there in spirit and Aunt Fusa will always be in our hearts.

I'm saddened by Fusa's passing and grateful that it was a peaceful transition with Wayne by her side. How fortunate for all of us to have had her here in Southern California these past few years. I enjoyed seeing her at the family dinners.
I'm disappointed that I'm unable to join you in Denver for the memorial service. I have existing commitments that weekend, but I'll be there in spirit and thinking about all of you that afternoon.

As a teacher, I used to tell my students that words are very powerful instruments that allow individuals to communicate what they are feeling. Perhaps I'm not well-versed enough, but I always feel inadequate when it comes to conveying my feelings in situations like this. Just my saying "I'm sorry" never seems like it's enough. Losing a parent at any age is difficult. I believe most of use are closer to our mothers than our fathers, so losing a mother is especially hard. I think you can take comfort in the fact that you did everything you could to make her last few years as nice as they turned out to be. I'm sure she was very proud of her entire family. Take care of each other.

We are so sorry to hear of Aunt Fusa's sudden passing. We were very surprised by the email and saddened by this news. We remember her as a kind, gentle, and caring person, and someone special to us.
We remember her story of a family visit to Los Angeles and getting separated at the mall. Unlike at home where there were light haired people everywhere and they were the only dark haired ones, that wasn't the case in LA. So being able to spot a family member wasn't easy. It was a funny story, and what made it better was her laughing about it too.
