NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — Gabriel P. "Gabe" Rossi Sr. of New Port Richey, Fla. and South Yarmouth died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Shirley M. (Johnson) McCarthy-Rossi with whom he shared 23 years of marriage.

Gabe was born in Salem, March 17, 1924, the son of the late Peter and Maria (Caserta) Rossi, and the step-son of the late Carmella Rossi.

He and his wife resided in Newport Richey, Fla. and South Yarmouth after leaving Peabody and North Reading.

He was the husband of the late Theresa M. (DiSanto) Rossi who died in 1979.

Gabe was president of Rossi Brothers Monument Company in Lynn for 40 years until his retirement in 1985.

A World War II Navy veteran, he served on the USS Custer receiving the American Area Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Area Medal with seven Bronze Stars and the Philippine Liberation with two Bronze Stars.

He was a member of the Peabody Lions, Peabody Elks and the Thompson Country Club. He was an avid golfer, swimmer and family man.

In addition to his wife, Gabe is survived by his son, Gabriel P. Rossi Jr. and his wife Mary E. (Deschenes) Rossi of Hamilton; his daughter, M. Theresa Lane and her husband Bruce R. Lane of Ipswich. He was the beloved grandfather of Gabriel P. Rossi III, Briana Shaw Rossi and Alexander P. Rossi, Joni Theresa Lane and Jonathan E. Lane. In addition to Gabe's family, he also leaves his wife's family, Linda Cosgrove and her husband James of Damariscotta, Maine, Kevin McCarthy and his wife Sharon of Danvers, Susan Runnals and her husband Warren of Port Wing, Wis., and Caren Tache and her husband Ronald of Middleton, Natasha and Alex Cosgrove, Andrew, Kristen and Shayla McCarthy, Camille, Samantha, Veronica and Griffin Tache; his brothers, Levardi Rossi of Venice, Fla. and Claudio Rossi of Enfield, N.H.; and his sister, Alba Signore-Collins of Hudson, Fla. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Irene Pavenski.

ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, Saturday at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Ann's Church, South Peabody at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
