Gail Campono

"For you are fearfully and wonderfully made…" Psalms 139

Our beloved Gail left this world on November 28 after a fierce and heroic 18 month battle with peritoneal cancer. She was surrounded in love by her family at her death at age 59. Gail's deepest devotion and abiding love was for her family. Especially for her dear children, John Campono and Jammie Shatney, and her only and deeply cherished grandchild, Jammie's son, Connor.

She leaves her mother, Myrnie Campono Derouchie (Colorado). Her Godmother, Annette Lewis (New Hampshire). Her sisters, Elaine Edwards of Colorado, Anita Campono Derouchie (Michael Derouchie) of Essex Junction, Bonnie Campono (David Klyszeiko) of Burlington, Kathy Hendrickson (Terry Hendrickson) of Colorado, Lisa Yago (Keith Yago) of Colorado. She was predeceased by her father, Clement Campono. Gail's best friend, Cocoa, her constant canine companion of 19 years, left just months before Gail.

Gail had a marvelously defined sense of style and taste. Everything she touched was made more beautiful by her hands and fine eye for beauty. She was an excellent cook, loved to garden with joy and hope, read voraciously, and enjoyed good movies and long walks. She had a knack for knowing what fit where and could fix just about anything. Her friends are remembering her as determined, dignified, witty, generous, and insightful.

Gail was self-employed as a personal housekeeper. She perfected the art of making a house a home and her service to clients was impeccable. Gail was always a hard worker who took great pride in what she produced and pleasure in creating comfort for others.

At Gail's request a simple memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 3, at 4 pm at the Bishop Booth Chapel, 20 Rock Point Road, Burlington, Vermont. Please call 310-2666 for directions if needed. .For two weeks Vermont Respite House staff provided Gail (and family) with the most thoughtful and considerate care for which we are grateful. In lieu of flowers please send a donation in Gail's name to Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, Vermont, 05495.

Your mom was such a beautiful person inside and out. I enjoyed the time when we worked together. I am in utter shock right and upset that CANCER has taken yet another one of who I consider to be my extended family. You boys will be in my thoughts and prayers as well as your precious mother.

Dear sweet Gail, our hearts are aching that you're gone but at peace knowing you are watching us from heaven. What an amazing testimony of the Will to Live, Strength to continue to fight in the face of impossible odds and diagnosis', how many would have wilted under the struggle? But for you - refusing to give in to this insidious disease, to be there for your precious sons and Connor. We love you, we will always love you and will not forget this hero. As I told you, cancer had no idea who it was attacking when it came after you. No one could have fought harder. I pray for your peace, that you know you fought the good fight and deserve your eternal reward. Rest well, dear Gail, we miss you. Till we meet again

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends. I hope that the promise found in 1 Thessalonians 4 : 14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there is a future for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

I miss you already, my sweet sister and precious friend. I can never thank you enough for the gift of your time that you shared with me throughout this journey. I have gleaned so much from your wisdom . You once said that you didn't want your life to be here, then gone and not have mattered . Your life HAS mattered, every single part of it. I will celebrate your life by sharing in this season the testimony of your strength, determination and bravery. I am so proud of you dear sister. Loving you beyond words till we meet again.
