Grass Valley, California - Gail Joyce Davis was born October 7, 1940 in Oakland, CA and died December 1, 2022 at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley, CA. She was 82. She was born to Thomas and Catherine Thompson and had a younger brother Thomas "Tege" Thompson. Gail married her soul mate Robert "Red" Davis in 1970 and they lived in Rialto, CA where they raised 2 children and she worked as a retail grocery clerk. In 1978 they relocated to Nevada City, CA and Gail immersed herself as a volunteer mom in the school district. She was hired as a teacher's aid at 7 Hills School where she lovingly shaped the lives of hundreds of children over the next 20 years. Gail and Red retired and moved out of the snow to beautiful Morro Bay, CA. It was then that they started traveling extensively. Many trips to Europe, Canada, and car trips back and forth across the United States. They would pick a topic and plan a trip around it: lighthouses, baseball Halls of Fame, Presidential Libraries and visit their many friends and loved ones along the way. Gail was incredibly loving and positive and never met a stranger. She always dressed "to the nines" with her fancy jewelry and never went anywhere without her lipstick. Gail and Red prided themselves on immersing themselves into their community and neighborhood and were loved by many. Gail was preceeded in death by her parents, brother, son Scott Thomas Davis, and last year she lost her soul mate of almost 51 years "Redsie". She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Catherine and Pat Sullivan and granddaughters Caitlyn and Sara of Nevada City, grandsons Shaun and Mickina Davis and great-granddaughters Kylah and Stella. A bench with a plaque for Red and Gail will be placed at the museum as well as a rosebush will be planted to honor the "Roselady".
