Gail Kalina Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 24, 2012.
Gail Patricia Kalina passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at her home in New York City with her devoted sons, David and Michael, by her side. Born June 15, 1949, Gail was the daughter of the late Alfredo R. and Madeline Toledo (Deane). She was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York but lived most of her life in New York City. Gail was loving and supportive. She enjoyed celebrating her life and had a strong sense of responsibility coupled with fierce independence. She worked tirelessly to provide for her sons and through her example taught them to achieve success in their lives. Gail loved to watch sports and movies. She loved to shop and would diligently search for a bargain, which she always found. Gail was extremely proud of her sons, placing their college degrees in elaborate frames in her apartment and speaking endlessly about them to anyone and everyone in her life. She was dedicated to her career and had an incredible sense of humor with a sharp wit. She loved European history and enjoyed experiencing it through her worldly travels. Gail is survived by her sons David and Michael; daughter-in-law Teresa; sister Cheryl, and many loving friends and family. A viewing is being held on Tuesday September 25th and Wednesday September 26th at 3:00-5:00p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00p.m. in Walter B. Cooke Funeral Home, 352 East 87th Street, New York, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, September 27, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Name of Jesus Church on 96th Street and Amsterdam Ave., New York City. Entombment will follow in Rose Hills Memorial Park, Putnam Valley, NY.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Gail a wonderful co-worker (MONY). The last time I seen Gail was with Mary Erhardt having lunch together at PF Chang in White Plains. Always very excited to hear about my family as she updated us on her sons Michael,David, and husband Kevin and her new adventure around the globe. I am so sorry that I could not be there for you but please know that Gail will have a special place in my heart. Hold the special memories of your beloved MOTHER in your heart for she is now your ANGEL.

Gail,

The Thomas (Alexis) family will miss you terribly as you, Michael and David are family. I will always remember those train rides downtown when we always talked and you gave me advice that linger on forever. You raised two wonderful men and in your honor I'm sure they will continue to be so. We love you. Rest in peace and in all of His blessings.

Life is a dream walking, death is a going home. Ones journey is the road that is traveled; the roads traveled are the moments that we carry after they have gone home. The moments are the memories for the generations to come.

Ms. Kalina,

You were so special to many people. Thank you for always making me feel good about being myself. You attended my wedding and I was so honored I remember. You had a gift of making others feel special but you were indeed the special one.

The angels are always near to those who are grieving, to whisper to them that their loved ones are safe in the hand of God.
