Garlyn B Urick

Garlyn B Urick, aged 82, of Caldwell TX, passed away peacefully after a short illness on September 13, 2024 in College Station, TX.

Garlyn (Honey) was born on December 7, 1941 (Pearl Harbor Day) to parents Lamar and Ellouise Smith in Caldwell, TX where she grew up and graduated from Caldwell High School. She married Sammy Urick on June 27, 1961 and they welcomed 2 children together, son Sam and daughter Lisa. They made their home and raised their family in Portland, TX. Her daughter Lisa blessed her with granddaughter, Crystal.

In addition to being a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, she had multiple careers in her lifetime. She was a paralegal for a law firm for many years, helped manage several businesses with her husband as well as the bookkeeping, and later in life she went back to college to become an LVN for several years. She was also an avid horsewoman, animal lover, gardener, and trail hiker. She loved playing "42" dominoes, country dancing, and going to the beach. She was smart, beautiful, funny and feisty. And she loved her family, especially her granddaughter Crystal.

She is survived by her son, Sam Lamar Urick and wife Denise of Lake Jackson TX, granddaughter Crystal Becker and husband Cory of Riesel TX, Burney Keilers of Somerville TX, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Lisa Urick, parents Lamar and Ellouise Smith, brother Charles (Buddy) Smith, and half-sister Delores Smith Lindley.

A memorial service for Garlyn will be held at Macedonia-Hix Baptist Church in Caldwell TX on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 10:30am. Her cremation is entrusted to All Families Mortuary and her ashes will be laid to rest in Hix Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at St Joseph's Hospital in Bryan TX, Five Points Rehab Care in College Station TX, and Allumine Hospice in College Station TX for their care.
