Garry Steven Moon

Garry Steven Moon was born March 14, 1951 in Oklahoma City and his life as we remember it passed on May 23, 2023. In his 72 years, Garry never met a stranger, and conversations with Garry were very seldom about him.

Raised in Corpus Christi, Garry graduated from King High School, received a Bachelor of Music degree in 1977 from Baylor University in Waco, and a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth in 1982.

Garry and Mari met in the Singles Ministry at the First Baptist Church of Euless and were married on May 12, 1979. Sensing a call of God they ministered in various areas of music, youth, recreation, missions, church planting, and primarily single adults. Garry served the First Baptist Church in Wilmer, Lakeside Baptist Church in Dallas, Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene, and First Baptist Church and Northwood Baptist Church in Longview, where he also taught Theatre Tech at Pine Tree High School for several years. Garry was also a national single adult conference leader.

The need to care for aging parents moved Garry and Mari to Hurst in 2003, where Garry served L.D. Bell and other schools as a substitute teacher, gave five years as a Hospice Chaplain and three years to Catholic Charities, before retiring before COVID.

Garry and Mari joined First Baptist Church Hurst, where he taught a Bible Study Connection Group for many years, assisted with numerous musical productions, participated in mission trips to Mexico, and lots more.

William and Jeane Moon, Garry's parents, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Mari Moon, their sons Andrew Moon, Alex Moon and wife Preciosa, and their granddaughter Ari, and son Tony Burns and wife Caysi and grandchildren Gun ner, Poppy and Jett, and his brother Mark Moon and wife Sara.
