Garth Angel, 86, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born on March 4, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, to Marie A. Sisson (Lehbrink) and Henry Angel and later became the stepson of William K. Sisson.

Raised in Chicago, Garth graduated from Calumet High School in 1956. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965 before joining the Chicago Police Department in 1966. Over his distinguished 32-year career, he held assignments in District 005, AT2F, District 003, the Marine Unit, the Detail Unit, and Housing. In the 1980s, the *Chicago Sun-Times* featured an article highlighting his exceptional diving skills after he recovered a weapon from Lake Michigan that led to an arrest. In addition to his police work, Garth attended classes at Daley College and worked as a security officer there from 1972 to 1995.

Garth had a passion for adventure and camaraderie. In the early 1960s, he spent time with friends at West Chatham Park and remained active throughout his life with the Fagowees Ski Club, scuba diving, and volleyball leagues. After retirement, he became a licensed ship captain, piloting commercial yachts on Lake Michigan and managing small businesses.

He was a beloved son and family member, as well as a close friend and lifelong companion to Don Mrskos Sr. (d. 2020) and Louis Coppens of Chicago. He formed many lasting friendships and was known for his generosity and willingness to help others.

Garth was single and requested no services. He will be laid to rest beside his mother in Ewing, Nebraska.

Oh my dear Garth you were one of a kind. The world will never be the same without you. I had the pleasure of working with you in Chicago out on the lake. You were a great captain and awesome friend. I wish I could give you a big hug. Thank you for being such a great guy. You will be terribly missed.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Garth while working on the yachts he captain on. He and I quickly became friends. He will be missed.

Garth was a good friend from our South Side Volleyball leagues. My most vivid memory was when he invited my wife and I to come out to his Marine Unit boat up by Navy Pier. He told us to drive out there at midnight and he'd take us out. Since we had small children at the time in the mid 1990s, we figured we'd just go out fir about 30 minutes. Well we got a big tour around the lakefront from Diversy Harbor to one of the water intake cribs a mike out in the lake. 3 hours later we got back to the pier. We drove home to Evergreen Park and were greeted by our babysitter's mother...not pleased with how late we were. Garth was one of a kind. He's missed by many.

I enjoyed seeing Garth at Calumet reunions which he really enjoyed. He was a nice person and lived closeby when he lived in Chicago. I hope he was happy living in Las Vegas. Virginia Stathos Bomba "Cookie"
