Garth D. Myers

Red Lion - Garth David Myers, 64, of Red Lion, PA, was called home on December 29, 2020 at 12:06 am, surrounded by his wife and two daughters from complications of Covid Pneumonia.

Garth was born in York on September 1, 1956. Son of the late Gene L. and Adonna J. (Frey) Myers.

Garth was a 1975 graduate of Central York High School where he participated in track. He completed training in Michigan to install the automated scoring system at Colony East. He was employed with York City Sewage Plant for 10 years, York County Hospital and Nursing Home Rehabilitation Center (Pleasant Acres) for 24 years in Plant Operations as a Boiler Operator prior to his retirement in January 2018, and Colony Park East Bowling Alley, where he did mechanic work for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn, celebrating 24 years of marriage on April 27, 2020, his daughters, Ashlee (Shawn) Wilkes, of South Carolina, and Rebecca (Mike) Massal of Red Lion. His brother Stephen (Kathleen) Myers of Florida and sister Barrett (Joseph) Skandera of Arizona. His grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye, Michael and Wyatt Wilkes of South Carolina and Natalie and Andrew Massal of Red Lion. Mother-In-Law, Norma Greenholt of York, Brother-In-Laws, Dale (Pearl) Greenholt of Camp Hill, Don Greenholt of Red Lion, Sister-In-Laws, Donna (Don Bollinger) Brown of Texas, Debra (Kevin) Mather of York, Diane Gillette of Texas, nephews: Colin (Merrick) Myers of Florida, Bradley (Pearl) Mather of York, Bryan (Angel) Mather of Virginia, Drs. JB (Etsuko) Brown of Germany, nieces: Katy (Erin) Kane of Springfield, Sarah Gillette of Texas, Donnalyn (Robert) Freeman of Texas, and their families. Many cousins, family friends, in-home nursing crew and his work family from Pleasant Acres and Colony East. He is predeceased by his parents, his son Andrew D. Myers (2008), Father-In-Law LaMar Greenholt, and a nephew, Jason Greenholt, and adopted daughter, Kimmie Nace.

Garth enjoyed bowling, traveling and cruises, and watching sports, especially ice hockey. His favorite teams were the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, and AHL Hershey Bears. He was able to visit 25 of the 31 NHL hockey arenas. He was an avid collector of hockey memorabilia for all teams. He enjoyed attending Dallas Stars and Allen American games and other AHL teams with his sister-in-laws Donna and Diane of Texas. He fulfilled a life-long dream of riding the Zamboni and meeting the Dallas Star Angels, Allen American Ice Angels, and meeting Biscuit (the mascot). He also enjoyed attending hockey games with his family, friends, and two former co-workers. Myrtle Beach was one of his favorite vacation destinations with his wife and family. When watching sports, Garth enjoyed "betting" on the game with his wife. Winning meant he got to "obtain" more hockey memorabilia. If he lost, which he occasionally did, his wife could select whatever her heart desired.

Garth was a very loving and generous man to his wife and family. He enjoyed spoiling her with flowers, cards, jewelry, and vacations. He was the type of person who would give the shirt off his back to help others. He was a great father, friend, and man. He will be truly missed by many, especially his furry family members, Abbygrl, Scooter, and Bella.

Funeral arrangements will be entrusted to Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc. of York, Pennsylvania. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021 at Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc., 822 E. Market St, York. A public viewing will be held from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. with the service to follow immediately after at 7 p.m. Pastor Tom Shelley officiating.

The family wishes to thank, Dr. Angela Heiland of Wellspan Dallastown, Hospice & Community Care supportive services, and all the staff and 4 Main employees of York Hospital for their care during Garth's admission.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that you donate needed items to your favorite non-profit no kill animal shelter or rescue in memory of Garth Myers.

Garth was a special brothet in law to me. He sparked our intrrest in the sport and we always enjoyed watching his enthusiasm for hockey when we attended games with him. I always enjoyed having a.beer with Garth at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville restaurant in Myrtle Beach. We would sit on the balcony at our suite at The Grand Atlantic resort and watch the waves and relax. Garth often said this is why we work all year long, to relax at such a peaceful place. Garth was a simple, quiet man, full of good intensions. He truly loved my Sister and I dont think he ever had an enemy. We will Miss You, Garth, but with GOD'S good graces, will see him again one day. Rest well Garth, you have worked hard all your life.
