Gary Callahan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 28 to Jan. 30, 2022.
Gary V. Callahan I
Dec. 15, 1936 - Dec. 30, 2021
Gary died Dec. 30, 2021, from complications of dementia. He was born to Victor A. Callahan and Dorothy L. Peters, followed five years later by a sister Vicky S. Callahan (Leggett).
He was born, grew up and lived most of his life in Milwaukie, Ore. Graduated from Milwaukie High school in 1955. He attended University of Oregon and University of Portland. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany and France from 1956-1958. He worked with his father at Callahan & Company doing small engine repairs.
In 1960, he married JoAnne Berck and they had a daughter, Serena L. Callahan (Hart). In 1968, he married Judy T. Stoddard and had two sons, Gary V. Callahan II and Joshua V. Callahan.
He leaves behind his bride of 53 years; his three children; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his nephew, Kelly Leggett.
Gary was happy to work and provide for his family. At the start of his career, he worked for H&R Block (Medford) and Shell Oil Company (Portland). After that he worked predominately in property management and property maintenance at the corporate level. He also managed and maintained multiple rentals of his own. Gary was all about family! He and Judy cared for numerous foster children from 1969-1979. They also cared for several aged relatives in their home.
He enjoyed travel, hunting, fishing and camping. He was especially interested in Irish genealogy and history and loved to share his knowledge with anyone who would listen. He spoke seven languages! Well, mostly just simple greetings, but he loved language and culture and enjoyed greeting people in their own language.
An Irish wake is planned for sometime in the near future!

Sorry to hear of my old neighbors passing. I have fond memories of his family and our 'kick the can' games.
