As we fast approach the celebration of Gary's life on Nov. 1, 2019 another year has passed us by. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to all of Gary's family and friends. He was a very caring man and cherished his family and friends always. I had the pleasure of being a friend of Gary for many wonderful years and played softball with him on quite a few teams. Take care Dekker's and continue to share his legacy. Blake

My sympathy to the family of Mr. Dekker.
I was a student of Mr. Dekker at Horace Mann. He was a great math teacher. I entered 7th grade dreading math class but as the year went by I actually started to enjoy it because I had a better understanding of math. I am now a data analyst and I work with data and math everyday. I also had him for an elective course that he took our class up in the catwalk in the theater.

Dear Pam, Davey, and Ally,
I am so saddened and shocked to hear the news about Gary. Words can't even say how I feel since I heard about Gary's passing. There goes another one of the good guys and I will always cherish the many good memories for all of these years of friendship. We always had so much fun getting together and playing Softball, camping, partying, and enjoying life. Gone too soon for sure. Take care and God Bless all the Dekker family.

I am so grateful to have had the privilege of working with Gary for many years at Horace Mann. He truly was an inspiration to so many math students. Gary did not hesitate to rewrite those challenging word problems to make learning fun by incorporating the students' names in each problem. The kids loved it. Gary had a special gift, and he will be missed. So sorry to Pam, Tracy and family.

I have many fond memories of Gary & his brother Dave going back to our 'Cole Park Days' in the late 1950's -- playing in the cement wading pool, along with Mike Lloyd & other kids from the neighborhood. So glad I was able to see Gary one last time at the Sept Barn Jam. A true classmate in life's journey...

Although I have not see Gary in almost 50 years, I vividly remember him playing baseball in Vollrath Park on so many occasions in his youth. Gary was a good sportsman. I am sorry I did not get to know him better as I was his neighbor. Praise God for Gary.
