Honorable GARY G. EVERNGAM  (Age 71)
Judge Gary G. Everngam of Silver Spring, MD passed away peacefully at his home on June 27, 2018. Born in Richmond, VA, Gary is a graduate of Oklahoma State University (B.S., 1969) and University of Baltimore School of Law (J.D., 1975). He served on active duty as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1972, including a tour of duty at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Gary was admitted to the Maryland State Bar in 1976 and the District of Columbia Bar and U. S. Supreme Court Bar in 1977. For more than 20 years, he practiced law in the areas of real estate litigation, business law, aviation law, and general practice. Highly regarded as one of Maryland's leading experts in landlord-tenant law, he coauthored with Douglas M. Bregman the treatise, Landlord-Tenant Law, Practice and Procedure (1983), which is often cited in court decisions. Gary served as an associate judge, District Court of Maryland from 2001 until his retirement in 2017. He was a member of the following bodies: Mental Health, Alcoholism and Addiction Committee, Maryland Judicial Conference, 2004-07; Administrative Judges Committee, District Court of Maryland, 2005-06, 2011-15; Technology Oversight Board, 2005-16; Judicial Council, 2006; and Maryland Electronic Courts Advisory Committee, 2011-17. Additionally, he chaired the Civil Law and Procedure Committee, 2008-10, Maryland Judicial Conference and the Court Technology Committee, Judicial Council 2015- (chair, major project executive steering committee, 2015-17). He also trained and was a mentor to new judges. A computer whiz, he continued in his active retirement to play a leadership role in updating the Maryland Judiciary's information technology. Gary was an avid fisherman and, for many years, a private aircraft pilot. Fluent in Spanish, he stayed with a family in Costa Rica periodically over the years to immerse himself in the language. Gary is survived by Lynette (Lyn), his beloved wife of 49 years, his brother, Judge Douglas Everngam, of Denton, MD, his sister, Betsy McLeod of Columbia, SC, three nephews, and a niece. A celebration of Gary's life will be held at Montgomery County Circuit Court, 50 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, MD on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gary's memory may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1800 M Street, NW, Suite B50, Washington, DC 20036, Telephone: 202-296-5363.

My condolences to Lyn and the Everngam family, Gary's passing was a shock to me, and my husband, Hilary.

Gary, it was a great experience for me to have assisted you for almost three years prior to your appointment to the Bench. You were not just my superior, but you became a close friend to my family too.

Good bye my friend - May you have eternal rest up above with the Lord.

On behalf of Gary's colleagues and his courthouse family, I offer every sympathy to Lyn and to the Everngam family. We are all so lucky to have shared Gary's friendship, intellect, generosity, kindness. Gary was loved, revered, and respected by everyone at our courthouses. Whether about real property law, computers, fishing, or Game of Thrones - Gary was everyone's 'go to' guy. We all treasure our memories of working with and learning from Gary.

Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years. May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

To the family, my prayers are with you. Thank you for sharing Gary. It was such a privilege to have gotten to known him through working with him on judicial projects. His insight and commitment to practical and efficient solutions were especially valuable since he unselfishly contributed his brilliant technological expertise. Even more valuable was his affable manner that made it easy and pleasurable to be in his presence.
