Correction... I could NOT keep up with Gary in math!

Gary was a remarkable student of mine in the sixth grade - his curiosity of the world, Sputnik's first flight and compassion for all around him.

Gary was a axtraordinarily brilliant fellow, capable of conversing on virtually any topic from current affairs to philosophy to theoretical physics. Though older than Gary by a few days, he was vastly ahead of me in his intellectual prowess. He was a good friend at both James Lick and at Univ. of Santa Clara where we were both day students, and he rode with me to class many, many times. I enjoyed his company and was glad that after a hiatus of 40 years, he reached out to re-establish contact with me. He is now undoubtedly engaging in metaphysical repartee with great minds of history.

I met Gary at James Lick High School. We were in the band and had some classes together. Gary and I were also in ROTC at Santa Clara U. He and I used to have some great discussions in science and philosophy. I could keep iup with him in math. He was a great thinker. I will always remember Gary.

Someone like 'Gary' never actually 'dies' -- sure his persona is done, but the essence of such a sentient being merely exits this universe to seamlessly continue in another universe in ways we mere mortals can barely comprehend. If anyone could live up to that myth, surely it is Maestro Ford. I intentionally avoided connecting with 'Gary' any deeper than email, focusing only on his aesthetic brilliance and unique wit, with awe and exuberant joy. I can imagine the loss many feel, and I hope it transitions into wonder soon. Gary is the embodiment of wonder. That is why I spent so much effort including his priceless emanations on my goofy website. I wrote him from time to time informally expressing the legalities, that I claimed no ownership of his words, just my graphics; and that if he died, everything of his on my site would obviously never be used by me commercially, and would automatically revert to his immediate family. Mahatma Ford has left the building for realms arcane, and we will unlikely see his kind again in our own remaining time. -- MT [ tinyurl.com/100000-YEARS ]

My sympathies to the family. Gary tutored me well in differential geometry and his son Conan programmed my Hewlett Packard Calculator to store, edit, and graph my body mass, to add an element on the bottom and automatically delete an element on the top.
I will miss Gary Ford too.

I am so sorry for you loss. Gary and I met in 5th grade and have been friends ever since. We drifted apart during college but rediscovered each other via the internet several years ago. I will miss his phone calls and world presence.

Sorry I couldn't be there to see you one more time. I will be there later in May for your final resting place. But I see you in my memories and in my dreams. You are my big brother forever and I will always be in awe of you and your talents. In the end I hope to see you in the resurrection and the new life of the world to come. Say hi to Pa for me.
