GARY JOSEPH FRANKOT
October 25, 1954 – October 31, 2017

Gary Joseph Frankot, age 63, died peacefully on October 31, 2017 at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Brainerd, MN.
Gary was born in St. Paul, MN on October 25, 1954 to Herman and Florence (Sankowski) Frankot. He was raised and attended school in West St. Paul, MN. When his parents retired he moved with them to a home on South Twin Lakes near Menahga, MN. After graduating from the Menahga High School with the Class of 1972, Gary returned to the Twin Cities where he worked for many years as a machinist. In the late 1980’s he returned to the Menahga area where he worked for the Vercon Construction Company. Gary and Coleen (Wyborny) had a son, Garrett on August 19, 1998. Throughout his lifetime Gary was an avid motorcyclist. He could build or repair any engine he touched. He enjoyed boating and swimming, especially on his favorite lake, Long Lake near Park Rapids, MN. Gary loved camping and last year had built his own camper from scratch. He loved being with his family and friends especially at Christmas. He loved his dog, Rocky.    Gary was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Florence Frankot.
He is survived by his son, Garrett; his three sisters: Margaret (William) O’Brien of Boston, Mass., Mary Anna (Michael) Foss and Delores (Patrick) Foss both of Menahga; his brother, Michael Frankot of the Twin Cities; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and their children.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Assumption Of Our Lady Catholic Church in Menahga with Father Lauren Germann officiating. Special music will be provided by his cousin, David Frankot and violinist, Kate Simonet. Urn Bearers will be Ray Hill, Duane Johnson and Mike Hed. I'll never forget the first time I met Gary.
It was way back in 1979. It was a Saturday morning and I was staying in my camper at Brainerd International Raceway. I woke up and the first thing I noticed was his rat bike parked outside door. We talked about my camper and how he had to change the oil in his bike.
He said, get on! I hoped on the back of his bike andaway we went. I remember him mixing us orange juice and vodka afterwards in a plastic tub because I didn't have anything better in the camper. I started calling him big buddy' that day. Took weeks before I figured out his real name.
He was always so vibrant and seemed larger than life. I know I'll miss him and all the times we spent together. My sympathies to the whole family and to anyone else who knew him.
Peace out Big Buddy.

Our sympathy to the entire Frankot family. My earliest memory of Gary was back in about 1963 while playing wiffleball in Pete and Mary's back yard on Seminole Ave. Gary was probably only about 8 years old and wanted to play ball with his cousins, Dave and Dan along with their Seminole friends, John Williams, Ralph Jeckel and myself Dean Franke. Gary learned quickly and became a good player of the numerous games played during that time period. I specifically remember Gary as having a kind and caring personality as a child which continued into his teenager and adulthood years. Gary and I last saw each other about 6 years ago at which time we talked about our experiences raising our kids in which the both of us were in our 40's when they were born. Based on our discussion, I knew right then that Gary, who I would have expected, was a very good father to his son. I like to remember people based on how they made me feel when I was around them. I will always remember Gary for being very hospitable, a pleasure to be with, and I am glad to have known him.

Our condolences to the Frankot family.
Gaty and I have been good friends since we first met back in 1977. We rode together and partied together.Gary and Ray came down to Florida a few months ago and we had a great time. I'm so sad that that won't happen again. He will, always be in our hearts and thoughts.
