Gary L. Funkhouser, 63, of Springdale, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, in Forbes Hospice, West Penn Hospital. Born Jan. 18, 1952, in New Kensington, he was a son of the late Chester and Alberta (Chestnut) Funkhouser; loving husband for 42 years of Marcella "Marcy" (Pearson) Funkhouser; beloved father of Curtis (April) Funkhouser, of Elizabethtown, Kristen (Carl "Tud") Albacker, of Harwick, and Kevin (Christina) Funkhouser, of Harmarville; grandfather of Savannah and Mallory; brother of Robert (Terry) Funkhouser, of Leechburg, Bonnie (Richard) Carroll, of New Kensington, and Betty Muffley, of Springdale. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Gary was a 1970 graduate of Burrell High School, a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and proudly served our country during Vietnam in the Air Force. He was a member of the Krivan Club, American Legion Post 764, and Springdale VFW Post 1437. He enjoyed going to his camp in Venango County, Lionel Trains, shooting pool, gardening and watching the Pittsburgh sports teams.
Friends and relatives will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont. Blessing service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, in the funeral home, with Father Kenneth Kezmarsky officiating. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Tarentum, with military honors accorded by Tarentum VFW. Springdale VFW Post 1437 will hold services 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
