To The Garrand Family:

We are so sorry..We just heard of the passing of Gary. Our sincere condolences to all. Darlene and I have read the included notes from old friends and I fondly remember "The Labarre Street" gang and how we all grew up together. Later, we all became classmates at St. John's and what a time we had. Since hearing of this sad news, we have been remembering Gary as he was, the joking, laughing, "good time" person that he was. No one was ever sad when they were with him. He will be missed.
To all of our other friends who share in these memories, hello, and best to all!

Margaret and Jerry - I was so saddened to hear of your loss; our children are supposed to out live us, aren't they? I still have Sherrill (she had that horrible auto accident in '73), but Walt passed away this past June. I know you both have faith, which is the only way to walk through this vale of grief, and my heart goes out to both of you.

When death comes there is sorrow and sympathy, but just remember, on the other side of the window is a final resting place. A place full of peace, love, angels and beautiful harp music. Remember the joyful times spent with this loved one who has passed on. He is happy where he is and you should be happy for him. The people who care about you realize that inside you there is an empty space that will never be filled. You just need to see the bright side of things, he is no longer suffering. One day you will be reunited with him, on the other side of the window.
Gary will be deeply missed, he was always a fun loving guy and fun to be around. He could make your worst day seem bright. Our thoughts are with you.

To the Garrands:

A wise person once told me; When we come together to morn the passing of a loved one, we do so not for they who pass, but for they who are left behind. It is they who are left behind that need love and support, for they are the ones who have lost.

Your family gave my father a job, a long time ago. Even now my father works for you. As a boy Dad brought home, each and every night, a story of Gary's fun loving life. Because of this, when ever I met Gary around the shop, he seemed bigger than life. When I left home and grew up, the stories never ceased. I looked forward to them with each and every phone call. I was saddened when the call came the Gary was ill. I was saddened even more when last night I received the call that Gary passed on. Part of me just felt he was too big of an Icon to go just yet. I am so sorry that something like this had to happen, to the family, that gave our family so much.

As children we hold on to only a few names, Grandparents, Uncles, a comic book hero or two, you should be proud to know that Gary is one of the names I never forgot. My prayers are with you in this trying time.

Gary put up a courageous fight, may he rest in peace.
I grew up with Gary and his family on Labarre St, there was a bunch that hung out together - Danny, Susie, Maryann, Beth, Annette, Carpenters - we would play hide and seek at night and Mark and Gary would love to scare us. We would sometimes call them the "bullys on the street", but they grew up to be very handsome men.
Our best to his sons, parents, family members and friends that lost a very great person.

God looked around his Garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon his earth and saw your loving face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
His Garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain.
And knew that you would never get well on earth again.

He saw your path was difficult, he closed you tired eyes,
He whispered to you "Peace be Thine" and gave you wings to fly.

When we saw you sleeping so calm and free of pain,
We would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again.

You've left us precious memories, your love will be our guide,
You live on through your children, you're always by our side.

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you on the day God called you home.

Mrs.Nettie Heller-Payant

November 6, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
