Gary Garver Obituary
Gary went to Qulin High School in Qulin, MO and joined the Air Force in Oct 1960. He was stationed at Eglin AFB, Davis Monthan AFB, Bremerhaven Germany and Darmstadt Germany where he met his future bride. Gary was honorably discharged in December of 1967.
After the Air Force he moved to Cape Girardeau, MO where he managed a LUM'S Restaurant.
In late 1969 he went to work for GMAC in St Louis, MO.
In 1976 he began a new career with the US Postal Service, working his way up from Clerk to Postmaster.
He retired in 1999 as Postmaster of Palmyra, MO.
As Gary was never one to sit idle, he decided to get a part-time job with the Hannibal Public School system as a bus driver – Gary enjoyed his summers off just like everyone else, spending nearly all his time boating on the Mississippi River.
In 2002, Gary moved back to St Louis and continued driving a bus for the Fort Zumwalt School district and retired from there in 2012.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, NAPUS and became an honorary member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon national fraternity in the fall of 1994.
Gary was always full of life, always had a joke to tell and would talk to anyone. He was bighearted and loved by everyone who knew him. He will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Helga, St. Charles, 3 children, Becci (Tim) Liberty, MO., Gina ( J. R.), Millersburg, MO. Jared (Chelly) Liberty, Mo. , 5 grandchildren, Trae, Kendalyn, Brennan, Rylee and, Kyla, 2 sisters Barb & Virginia, 1 brother, Rick, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Nova Garver.
Visitation services will be Friday, January 10, 2014 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 pm with burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 2:30 pm with full military honors.

Dear Helga, Becki, Jena and Jerrod
Please know that Carl, Lou and Amy have you all in our prayers for peace and comfort. Gary was a great man and really loved life with his family and friends. We always enjoyed coming to some of your parties, Helga you were amazing at getting things ready.
We understand what you will be going through, may God give you strength and peace.
I have been on line for 2 days tring to find your address to send a sympathy card, couldn't find the address, but did find this guest book and wanted to let you know we care.

I have so many wonderful memories of my teenage years and most of them include this wonderful man and his family. I was fortunate enough to make a life long friend when trying out for the freshman volleyball team her name was Becci Garver, little did I know that I would share many adventures with not only her but her family as well. My first trip ever to a lake was with Gary and Becci and I remember it like it was yesterday! I am so blessed to have had such a wonderful example of family, love, and inspiration. God speed Mr. Garver.

Aunt Helga & Family--We are so sorry to hear the news about Uncle Gary. Words can not express the heartache we feel for your family. He was such a funny and caring guy! To all of you I am so sorry for your loss, the handful of times I was around your father and family were always fun times filled with laughter! I especially enjoyed helping Gina and Becci create the scrapbook for your Mom and Dad's 40th Wedding Anniversary, that walk thru your Dad's life with pictures and stories truely told the great man your father was! Helge, Becci, Gina, and Jared, Gary was a gift to us in this life, loyal, charismatic, dedicated and a fun fella to be around. He was a great story teller and always wanted to tell someone the newest joke he had heard. Being neighbors to you made him a father figure to all of the Scheiblhofer crew. We loved all your family growing up except for that scary mean dog Major--- he was brutal and a tormentor of tittle girls!!!

Condlences from the Sapp family. Gary was good man and an even better friend. I looked up to him alot. he kept me out of a lot of trouble by having me help out with projects around the house, like helping to build the pole barn. He will be missed but certainly never forgotten.
