Gary R. Hubert

Gary R. Hubert, 74, of Salix, Iowa, died December 12, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 15, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa with Father Michael Erpelding, Celebrant, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Salix. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 14, 2016 with a scriptural wake service at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa. Gary Raymond Hubert was born February 15, 1942 in Onawa, Iowa, the only child of Paul and Maxine (Pratt) Hubert. He was raised in the Salix area and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1960. Gary and Reneé (Gereau) Hubert were united in marriage on June 15, 1968 in Salix, and the couple made their home in Salix. Three children were born to this union: Marc, Michelle, and Adam. Gary worked for the Sioux City Foundry, farmed with his father, drove the St. Joseph Catholic school bus, and was employed as an armored car security guard for Wells Fargo, now Loomis Fargo. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salix and of the Siouxland RC Modelers Airplane Club. He was a longtime fan of auto racing, and was particularly fond of Dale Earnhardt. He loved going for his afternoon coffee at various businesses in the area. Survivors include his children, Marc Hubert of Salix, IA, Michelle Vos of Sanborn, IA, and Adam (Valerie) Hubert of Story City, IA; and five grandchildren, Makenzie and Paige Vos, and Owen, Camille, and Eli Hubert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Maxine Hubert; his wife, Reneé Hubert on June 21, 2014; and his parents-in-law, Gerald and Wilma "Wimpy" Gereau.
