Gary was one of the best grandpas that I could ever ask for. He was so kind to me and we would always play fun games and have a great time. Grandpa and Grandma (Gary and Renee) would always send me special birthday cards with beautiful handwriting and money. Whenever we got together with Gary and Renee, it was the best time of our lives. One time specifically, Grandma and Grandpa came to my other grandparent's house in Story City for a Christmas celebration. After we had lunch and opened presents, Grandma and Grandpa asked me if I wanted to come to their hotel room to watch TV and spend time with them. My parents allowed this and of course, Renee asked me if I wanted an orange Tic Tac. (Those were her all-time favorite). That was one of my favorite memories of both of my amazing grandparents. Thank you both for all of the amazing memories we made together.

I am saddened at the news of Gary's untimely passing. I would share good thoughts and feelings with him in the last several years at Starbucks where we would greet each other with the quip, "I wish I had a job like that." We would then discuss the issues of the day and he would take time to carefully hear my perspective and I his. I came to know him and his son and would share extra Explorers tickets with him once a summer! I will continue to do that as it would be fitting. I knew his wife. He missed her greatly though one could not tell. I could feel it! I will miss him as I considered him my friend! I am disappointed that I only this minute heard that his earth walk had ended! I am sitting in the chair that he would occupy almost daily! I was supposed to sit here! I will miss him. He was a man of great humility. Who among us will be called 'humble' when we leave? Have a good journey my friend! You deserve it. Greet your wife! I will take solace knowing you are together.

I met Gary at Starbucks in a Sioux City. I met him about two years ago. I would be working on homework and he would always stop by and say hello and we'd discuss the weather. The last time I saw him was before I started finals this last week. He wished me good luck and we discussed how our Thanksgivings were. I wish I had known he had passed before today. I would have loved to meet his family. I'll never forget him and I'll have an extra coffee for him on my next visit to Starbucks. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Marc, Mich, Adam and families,
We were saddened to hear of your Dad's passing. We always enjoyed your folks and got to know them quite well through Marc and Scott's friendship. We feel bad we cannot be there for his service, but just got back from Sioux City on Monday, having gone to my uncle's funeral. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May knowing he is in a better place and your memories sustain you in the coming days. Rich & Renae

We met Gary at Starbucks, and we often had a cup of coffee with him as we seemed to have our coffee time at the same time as Gary's. We have missed seeing him. So sorry for your loss. Gary was such a nice man. Sincere sympathy to all of his family and friends.

Gary was the best brother-in-law a girl could have. He always treated me like his little sister, teasing and pestering me for 50 years. He was a good husband to my sister Renee and a wonderful dad to their three kids. I'll miss him dearly. My heart and prayers are with all of you as always. Love, Nancee'

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you!
Your father was one of a kind. We enjoyed visiting with him when we would see him out having his coffee. We became acquainted with your parents when I worked with Renee at Bldg Blocks in the Care Bear Room.
God's Blessings!
