Gary Johnson Sr Obituary

Gary Neil Johnson Sr., 78, passed away on February 13, 2025, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was born on December 20, 1946, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Gary dedicated over 30 years of his career to the shipyards and Weedon Engineering as a Marine Technician. His expertise and commitment to his work left a lasting impact on those he worked with throughout the years.

For two decades before moving to Louisiana, Gary was an active member of Old Plank Road Baptist Church in Jacksonville, where he found fellowship and faith.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kay Johnson; daughters Melissa Hatcher (Phillip), Angela Espinosa (Antonio), and Christy Stanton (Cade); son Gary Johnson (Katie); as well as 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Johnson; mother, Thelma Cox; and brothers Tommy Johnson and Robert Johnson.

A memorial service will be held on March 22, 2025, at Old Plank Road Baptist Church, located at 8964 Old Plank Road, Jacksonville, Florida, 32220. The service will begin at 11:00 AM and conclude at 1:00 PM.

Gary's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

My sincere condolences to all of the family of Mr. Johnson. I never personally knew him, but felt as if I did. Been friends with daughter Angie for well over 35 years. A special hug to Ms. Kay Johnson. May you all find peace and comfort in all the memories you all have shared together. God Bless
