Gary Lybrand Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 13, 2025.
Gary Douglas Lybrand, 67, of Port Tampa, died at home after a difficult struggle with lung cancer. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, and raised in Tampa, where he graduated from Plant High School. After serving as a helicopter mechanic in the United States Marine Corps and spent the rest of his working life as a skilled automotive mechanic.

He was warm, caring, and funny. He loved his family almost as much as he loved taking naps. A lifelong Dr Pepper enthusiast, Gary had a laid-back nature and a dry sense of humor. He didn't need much to be happy - just a comfortable couch, something to fix, and someone to joke with.

He is survived by his son, Phillip Lybrand (Vancouver, WA); his daughter, Magen Klovos (Tucson, AZ); and three grandchildren: Gabriel, Castiel, and Shelby. He was preceded in death by his older sister, Linda Greif.

A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, July 26, from 12-3pm at Picnic Island Park in Port Tampa. All who knew him are welcome to come share memories and remember him in the place he called home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
