Gary Mees Obituary

MILFORD - Gary L. Mees passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2017 at Kent General Hospital.
Mr. Mees was born Aug. 24, 1940 in Van Wert, Ohio to the late Robert D. Mees and Dorothy Taner Mees, but grew up in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
He graduated from Perdue University Krannert School of Management and was enrolled in the ROTC program entered the United States Army and attained the rank of Captain. Mr. Mees served 14 years in the Army during the Vietnam War, and had received a Purple Heart among other military citations. He only recently retired after working for Leisure World of Maryland Corporation (LWMC) as Director of Human Resources. He started in law school, but his passion was for Human Resources/Personnel. Gary enjoyed model railroading and cars, traveling and simply sitting on the back porch. As a transplant recipient he never took a day of life for granted. He was an avid Washington Capitals fan, Nationals and Redskins and his beloved Cubs team from childhood. He loved family and especially loved town and city history and museums. At Purdue he was a proud member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity Alumni for which he supported, he owed so much to be a member for his learning and success.
He is survived by his wife, Lisette Gilbert-Mees of Milford and before moving to Milford he resided in the Maryland suburbs of the Washington DC area; his sister, Jeanne Forrest (Ralph) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nieces and nephews, Vicki Rosier (Jake), Jeff Forrest (Casey); brother-in-law, Tom Fanty (Tricia) of Buckeye, Ariz.; nephews, Taylor Fanty (Alicia), and Jeff Fanty (Christina); and step-son, Ron Gilbert (Cathie).
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call one-hour prior. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), P.O. Box 407, Camden, DE 19934.
